Sky rolled her eyes and chuckled. “About us.”

“Oh?” He raised an eyebrow, mischief dancing in his eyes. “What exactly about us?”

“About how nice you were, talking with me while I sat alone. And then how you were so polite and sensitive, even hesitant, while I was trying to rip your clothes off a little while later.”

“You know, you have a lot of material to totally destroy my man card.”

She squirmed on his lap, thoroughly enjoying the strain on his face. “I’m pretty sure your man card is secure. You’ve always been a perfect gentleman to me. That, Nicolas, is a woman’s biggest turn on,” she whispered into his mouth before kissing him.

His hands slid up her back, pressing her chest into his. Even as she ground herself into him, he kept his hands in perfectly respectable places. While she wanted to continue kissing him, she didn’t want to lead him on. With Gabby laying on the quilt in the other room, and everything still so... unsure between them, falling into bed wasn’t the best of ideas.

This time, Sky was the one who broke away from the kiss. “We have a lot to talk about.”

“I think we made pretty good headway today.”

“Did we?” She dropped her hands to his chest, keeping a few inches between their bodies. “So now what?”

“Now I spend time with you and Gabriella.”

“And then what?”

“And then we take it one day at a time.”

“Nick.” She sighed and climbed off his lap. They couldn’t have this conversation with her dry humping him like a dog in heat. Not that she was, but the temptation was too strong. “I’m only here for another month.”

“That gives us four weeks to figure it all out. We don’t need to do it today.”

No, they didn’t, but four weeks was more than enough time for her to fall madly in love with him.

If she wasn’t already there.

She couldn’t afford to have the added stress of a relationship when she returned to Virginia. And really, she should go back earlier to figure out the day care situation. There was a center on base, but she’d need to schedule a meeting time for Gabby and the staff. She’d need to shop for supplies, to adjust to military life again. She couldn’t spend every day of her maternity leave in Maine, no matter how much time she wanted to spend with Nick.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

“I want you to meet my family. Actually, I want them to meet you and Gabriella.” Nick kissed the top of his daughter’s head. He’d finally mastered putting on the kangaroo contraption thing and loved walking around with Gabriella strapped to his chest. “To show you two off.”
