“I’m leaving in a month.”
“That’s not an answer.” Charlie took the bacon again.
“Follow your heart. The worst thing that could happen is you two fall madly in love and then have to figure out the long distance relationship thing.” Gina put a comforting arm around Sky’s shoulder.
“Or is the worst thing him saying no to sex once he learns about Gabby?” Brooke asked.
Sky dropped her head into her hands. “Both.”
“Oh, honey.” Gina rubbed her back. “Follow your heart.”
“And your sex drive. You still have one, right?”
Leave it to Charlie to bring everything back to sex. That was Skylar’s way as well with her friends. Being on the receiving end of it felt odd.
“I didn’t until I saw Nick again.”
“Again?” Brooke smirked across the table at her.
Shit. She’d kept her two brief interludes with him a secret. She didn’t know why. The four of them shared everything. Like everything. Part of her kept it secret because Nick was friends with them, and she didn’t want to make things awkward when Nick had a girlfriend. They hadn’t talked much either time, but she did ask about his relationship status and if he was clean.
Granted, he could have lied about both. So could have she.
“Obviously I knew Nick. You introduced us when we went to The Zone on their opening weekend. It’s not like we were friends or anything. He’s hot. You can’t argue that.”
Sky dove into her egg white omelet. Her friends’ silence told her they didn’t buy it. They were too smart and knew her too well. She got through three bites before she dropped her fork.
“Fine. I want the sex. Happy now?”
“My job is done.” Charlie got up from the bench and placed a kiss on Gabby’s head before heading back to the kitchen.
“Be careful with your heart,” Gina said, giving her a one-armed squeeze. “I’ll babysit anytime you want.”
After Gina left, Brooke handed Gabby to Sky so she could nurse. “It isn’t necessarily Gabby that’s getting in the way of my love life,” she said, lifting her shirt and lowering her bra so her daughter could nurse. “It’s this.”
“Nursing? Mothers still have sex, you know.”
“With their husbands who share baby duties, not women who slip out for a few hours in between feedings.”
“So stay the night.”
Sky snorted. “Nothing says sexy turn on than a woman bringing over her newborn to watch from her car seat and then worrying about your boobs leaking all over the guy.”
“True.”
“See? This is all stupid.”
Brooke rested her elbows on the table. “It is stupid if you’re just looking to get laid. It’s not stupid if you really like Nick.”
“It’s never been about getting laid.”
“I know. We all know. Talking about sex is fun though.”
“I’m sorry for all the sex pressure I put on you guys in the past. It sucks being on the receiving end.”
Brooke laughed. “Hayes. There’s never been pressure. The three of us wanted our men. You had nothing to do with it.”
“I know.” She stroked Gabby’s cheek admiring her dark hair and long lashes.
