“Trouble?” She gave a sad laugh. “No, not trouble. More of a situation.”
“Is it a guy?” Hell. If there was another man in her life... at least her reluctance to be with him would make sense.
“There’s definitely no guy.”
His shoulders relaxed in relief. Since serious wasn’t his thing, he teased, “Will a guy make it better? And by a guy, I mean me. How can I make it better?” He caressed her cheek with the back of his knuckles.
“You know...” she swiveled on her stool so her knees bumped into his. He opened his legs and let hers rest between his. “Maybe you can.”
“I can?” He whipped his head up in shock. Wonderful shock. “Tell me how. Tell me when. Tell me where.”
Skylar laughed and his jeans grew tighter.
“I’m not sure if I should be honored or scared you’re this desperate.”
“Both. Although, I’m not desperate to be with a woman.” He moved closer, brushing her hair behind her ear before whispering in it. “I’m desperate to be with you, Skylar.”
She gasped when his lips nipped at her lobe. Her body went stiff and then relaxed as she turned toward him.
“I’m only here for another five weeks.”
“I’ll take what I can get.”
“It will be—”
“Amazing.” He brushed his lips along her jaw. “Fantastic.” He kissed the corner of her mouth. “Explosive.” His mouth covered hers as he took what he’d been craving for too damn long. Since they were sitting at his bar—albeit an empty bar—and his employees were around somewhere, he kept the kiss sweet.
“Wow,” she said when he drew away.
“Definitely wow.”
“I approve,” Charlie said from behind them.
Instead of leaping away as he’d expected, Skylar chuckled. “You’d approve if you walked in on us having sex on the bar.”
Nick moaned. It was a fantasy he’d been carrying with him for over a year.
“By the strained look on his face, I’d say Nick approves of that thought as well. Not tonight, kids. I’ve got my own man waiting for me in our bed, and an early morning ahead. As do you, sweet cheeks. I’ll meet you in the car. See ya, Pierce.”
Charlie picked up her purse and left.
“An early morning?”
Skylar forced a smile. “I’m keeping busy during my stay.”
“Camp stuff?”
“Something like that.”
There was more to Skylar’s staying in Angel Springs than she was saying, and while Nick was thankful for whatever it was that brought her here, he was also curious about what had her attention.
Because for the next five weeks, he wanted it all.
