“Charlie?” The blonde next to red claws snorted. “Isn’t that like a guy’s name?”

Skylar craned her neck past red claws and said, “How do you know that Charlie’s not a he?”

The tequila girls scowled and scooted away.

“So, you’re like gay?”

“I don’t know what you’d call the three of us.” Skylar tipped her chin to Nick, and he did all he could not to bust out laughing. “We’re kinda like a variety pack, you know? It never gets boring, that’s for sure. A guy, a girl, a trans. Let me tell you, the sex is amazing. We’ve been looking for a quad, but I don’t think any of you are our type.”

This time, the blonde pulled out her credit card and handed it to Nick. He swiped it through and handed the receipt back to her. She scribbled her name and the tequila girls fled.

“That was awesome. I want to kiss you again to see what happens.”

“You two kiss again and I’m outta here. I’m not into threesomes or being a third wheel.”

“Please, I’ve been the third wheel for weeks now.”

Charlie rolled her shoulders back and gave Nick an assessing eye. “I knew you two would turn into a thing.”

“We’re not a thing,” Skylar quickly said.

“We could be,” Nick purred. Charlie smiled and Skylar whipped her head around. “You know I’m interested.”

“Told you.” Charlie elbowed Skylar.

Letting her off the hook, Nick took their drink orders. He was surprised Skylar only wanted water with lemon and poured a local ale for Charlie. “I’ll be back.” He tended to his neglected customers and filled Ashley’s order.

With closing time only thirty minutes away, the tables had nearly cleared. “Kitchen’s closing up so last call for food orders,” he called out and headed down toward Skylar and Charlie. “Can I get you ladies something to eat?”

“No, thank you.”

“Yes. Nachos. The chicken ones,” Charlie said.

Nick went back to the kitchen and ordered a burger and fries for himself as well. As tempted as he was to hang out with Skylar all night, he had work to do if he wanted to close up and get out before midnight. He pretended not to eavesdrop on their conversation while he put away clean glasses and wiped down the machines.

Every time Skylar laughed, he strained a little more behind the zipper of his jeans. When their nachos were ready he slid the platter and two plates in front of them. “Mind if I join you? I haven’t eaten since breakfast.”

He picked up his burger and took a healthy bite, not waiting for a response.

“Why haven’t you eaten?” Skylar picked up a chip and dipped it in her salsa.

“Busy.”

Which was mostly true. He was. But he could have squeezed in a meal if he hadn’t been distracted thinking about Skylar. The hunger he’d felt was for her, not food.

“Oh.”

The three of them ate in silence until Charlie finally broke it. “Are you working tomorrow night?”

“Yeah. Colby’s sick. I don’t trust anyone to run this place but him.”

“Maybe you should hire another assistant manager. Owen says you’re working almost seven days a week.”

Nick shrugged. “Guess it comes with being a small business owner.”

“Let us know as soon as Colby’s back at work. We’d love to do a double date. Or maybe a quad, is that what you called it, Sky?”

Nick grinned, appreciating Skylar’s blush. It wasn’t the idea of a threesome or foursome that turned him on, it was Skylar defending Charlie and then pretending she was in a sexual relationship with Nick that had him hard.
