She wanted a man who loved life like she did. Who was fun to be around, who had a solid career, and financial security. But if he had those, then he couldn’t be a stay at home dad. Skylar wanted too much. The impossible.
Now she had to figure out her priorities, what she would be willing to settle for. It all came down to one thing. No, not a thing. One person.
Gabriella. What was best for her? Because making her happy and feel loved was more important than anything else in the world.
“You okay?” Nick startled her thoughts.
“Sorry. I zoned out I guess. It’s a fantastic view.”
Nick stretched his arm out and pointed across the water. “There’s your camp, around the bend.”
She knew that already but followed the length of his arm, appreciating the strength in it. It would be nice, really nice, to feel them wrapped around her again. Not so rushed though. She’d like time to explore his body, to trace the dips and bumps of his muscular physique. To squeeze his ass that filled out his jeans in the most magnificent way.
Skylar cleared her throat. “Speaking of, I have some work I need to get back to.” There was work to do but nothing that had to be done now. The only pressing matter was the weight of her breasts against her bra. Gabby would be hungry again soon.
“Okay. I suppose I should get to work as well.”
They rode in silence back to The Zone. Nick stood next to her car and stuffed his hands in his front pockets and rocked back on his heels.
“I don’t suppose I could talk you into a round of bowling.”
She tapped her lips with her finger as if contemplating, which she would be if she didn’t have to get back to Gabby.
“You most definitely could,” she said with a sly smile, “but not today.”
Nick stepped close to her. “Well, pretty lady, you tell me when and I’ll make it happen.”
“Maybe I’ll surprise you.”
“Darlin’,” he said in that sexy Texas drawl, “you already have.”
CHAPTER SEVEN
He may not have an MBA like his brother, or a masters like his sister, but Nick was smart enough to read the signs.
Skylar was interested. At least a little. For whatever reason, she was hesitant to spend time with him. Maybe she worried he thought less of her because of their quick hook ups. He’d noticed it at the camp a few days ago. She’d stilled when she saw him. The surprise on her face was either because she didn’t want to see him or she was confused as to why he was there. His associates degree in business didn’t educate him enough on reading all the signs. He’d need a PhD to totally understand women. And even then...
