Kli curled her lip and glared at me as if I had deliberately taken the opportunity from her.
She fell into her seat and folded her arms.
The Assistant, seemingly unaware of the hardship she had just caused, turned to me. “I have some excellent news.”
My mouth felt dry and I could hardly breathe. “Y-Yes?”
“One of the females from your Group has dropped out at the last minute. If you’ll follow me, I’ll take you to your mate.”
The ground shifted beneath my feet and I felt dizzy.
I thanked God I was sitting down.
Could this really be happening?
I mean, I knew it was possible but was I only hallucinating?
I shared a look with the others.
Kli had the sourest grimace on her face — so much for making new friends, I thought — while Ettod had a beaming bulging smile for me.
She clapped her thick hands and raised her little fingers up at me in what I assumed was her culture’s version of performing a double thumbs up.
The Assistant didn’t wait and had already turned on her heel and marched through the door, holding it open for me to pass through.
“You give him hell, girl,” Ettod said. “And give him one from me.”
Give him one?
Ride him for her?
I doubt she could ride anyone without crushing them…
As I passed through the doorway and into the realm of impossibility, I heard Kli call out:
“Do you… Do you maybe think you’ll need some help?”
No, I thought. I would need no help at all.
Whoever my male was, I had no intention of sharing his Seed.

YALTAH
I paced furiously back and forth and would almost certainly wear a hole in the carpet fabric if I kept doing it for much longer.
I was angry that the female had up and left.
Would she come back?
I wasn’t sure.
I had been kind to her, understanding.
I had gone slow and not forced myself onto her…
But it wasn’t really her fault, I knew.
