He laughed and rolled his head against the wall to watch the others again. "Tell me about it."

CHAPTER 32

Bellamy

Tristan, my brother, had been to the club before, so I knew he'd be arriving through the mirrors in the VIP room. I locked my phone and dropped it back into my pocket, heading for the lift. My focus was on healing Samantha, but it was hard to ignore Raiden and Alastor as they chatted about me and Lex as if we weren't in the room and could hear them.

I hazarded a glance their way as I pressed the call button. They both watched me. My tail flicked off of the ground behind me before I wrapped it around my ankle. Thank you, brother, for that idea. I stepped into the elevator and turned to face the room. All eyes were on me, and I knew it was because I was bringing help and not because the two of them were discussing my personal life.

I couldn't work out which demon hit her with their venom. Not an imp. They do actual damage to the skin, and besides, the straight slice through her skin looked more like a single sharp nail had slashed her skin open. Trolls don't have venom unless they were using a blade that had been dipped in poison. I was still tossing it around in my head when the doors slid open to the ground floor.

The club was empty, employees weren't even around yet. It reminded me of the night Lex and I grew closer. Too bad we couldn't go back to that. Now everything was fucked up and emotional.

Tristan and his twin were lounging on the leather sofa when I tugged the door open.

"Took you long enough. I thought you said this was an emergency," Tristan said, pushing himself to his feet. His twin mirrored his movements, and they both crossed the room to me.

"It is," I replied. "I'll tell you on the way back up to the apartment."

When the lift opened back up to the scent of Samantha's blood permeating the air and her still body still on the bed, I almost broke. Instead, I straightened my back, infusing it with unbendable steel as Alexander moved next to Lex and Sam. I followed his gaze as it moved to the wound that was now visible to everyone and still weeping a bit of blood down her side to the towel that they had folded and put beneath her.

Normally, the scent of her essence would make my mouth water for just a taste. At the moment, the only thing that I could think about was seeing her healed. I wasn't used to my hunter being helpless, and it made me realize I had fallen in love with a mortal girl who would someday die.

Not if I could help it, I promised myself.

There were ways of ensuring she lived as long as the rest of us, and I would do any of them without regret. I might be in love, but I was still a demon. If I needed any kind of wake up call, this was it.

When she gasped and cried out, I moved closer to see what Tristan's twin was doing. His hand didn't even touch her. A light came from his palm and illuminated the wound that was quickly stitching itself together. She went still, but not like before. This was the calm of healing. And with it, I could feel the pressure in my chest easing, the pain between my shoulder blades disappeared. She would live this time.

"She needs to rest for at least a day." Alexander stood up and looked around the room for the first time.

"Thank you," I said, my eyes never leaving Samantha.

Lex stood next to me, and I could feel his relief through our bond as if it were my own. The only person I still couldn't feel, who was also in love with my hunter, was the dragon. But I could see it in the way he sagged against the wall.

"Anytime, brother," Alexander replied, and I turned my attention to him. He looked like a God, not a demon, so it was hard for me to connect the relation, even though I knew he looked like Tristan did in his human form.

I pressed my lips together. How had I gone from having no one to this? He didn't sound like he was being fake in his words, and the offer seemed genuine. Still, I ignored his words and faced Tristan.

"Next time, maybe call when the world isn't ending," Tristan said.

"We may need each other again. A war is coming, and we are the army," I replied.

He narrowed his gaze. "What do you mean?"

"We know why Hades helped you, why Hecate wanted the souls. It is all part of something bigger. They have shaped us for what is coming." He shared a look with his twin before they both turned toward me.

"Why does it sound like you are including us in that last part? We fought our battle, and we won," Tristan said as his tail whipped against the bedside table.

I chuckled. "It's bigger."

"Of course it is," Alexander muttered.

"And to think I brought you cookies from Aunt Judy," Tristan said. He held up the baggy of cookies, taunting me with them. He hadn't shared the last time. "Then you decide to drop this in our laps? Gage is going to blow a gasket if Jules is in danger right now."

I snatched the baggy from between his fingers. "Looks like you should figure out how to break the news." I snagged a cookie out and shoved the whole thing in my mouth. So good.

"Remind me not to bring him cookies next time, Alex," Tristan said, watching me toss another into my mouth.
