“Oh, he’s going to lose his mind.” I walked over to Simone before wrapping her up in my arms and pressing a kiss against her lips. “And how was your day, baby?”

“Um, I’ve got some news.”

“News?” I pressed. “Good news? Bad news?”

“I think I might be pregnant again.”

“You’re not sure?” I frowned. “You haven’t been to see Dr. Carlson yet?”

“Why do you sound a little disappointed?” Simone tilted her head to the side. “Wait. Are you actually excited about this? Do you actually want me to be pregnant?”

“More than anything,” I admitted with a laugh. “I love being Lucas’s dad. And I don’t think I’d mind having a few more running around.”

“A few more?” Simone rapidly blinked. “Harry, how many kids are you talking about?”

“That depends. How many do you think we have room for?”

“Two.” Simone laughed. “I think two’s a good number to stop at. It’s a good, round number.”

“Then two it is.” I kissed her again. “But you should really go see Dr. Carlson. Just to be sure everything’s on the right track.”

“I will—”

“Mommy! Daddy! Can we go get a dog now?” Lucas ran back into the room.

“Not right now, sweetie,” Simone answered before she scooped him up into her arms. “But we can go look at photos of dogs online. We can see if there are any you like at the local shelter. And then, after you pick one out, we can go see if it’s still there tomorrow.”

“Okay, Mommy.” Lucas sweetly kissed her on the cheek. “Thank you!”

“What do you think? Beef or chicken?”

The golden retriever puppy cocked his head sideways as he stared up at me. He’d been living with us for a few weeks now, and even though he was Lucas’s dog, he was definitely Simone’s and my responsibility.

“Does that look mean beef? Because I think it does.” I finished setting out some wet dog food for him on the kitchen floor. “But if you don’t like it, just let me know and we can get you something else.”

“Are you talking to the dog again?” Simone laughed as she came into the kitchen. “You two are always having your own little private conversations.”

“I don’t know what to tell you, baby. The dog just gets me.” I grinned before I went on. “How was your appointment with Dr. Carlson? Does everything look good?”

“Yeah. Everything looks fine.” Simone seemed nervous. “Do you remember when we were talking about how many kids we wanted to have? And I said two, and you said—”

“However many we can fit in the house. Yeah.”

“Right. That.” Simone let out a shaky breath. “Well, it looks like you might’ve won out on that one.”

“What do you mean by that, baby?”

“I mean that we’re not going to have two kids,” she replied, her voice low. “Dr. Carlson let me know that we’re actually going to have three.”

“Three?” My eyes went wide. “Wait. Simone, are we going to have twins?”

Before she had a chance to answer me, I pulled her in close, keeping her tight against my chest.

She laughed. “Yes. We’re having twins.”

“I can’t believe it. Twins!”
