I looked in his eyes, and I saw all the love there. I'd never been more certain of anything in my life.

Nodding through the tears, I laughed. “Yes, Cooper. Yes, I will marry you.”

He broke out in a grin, stood up and wrapped me in his arms, lifting me off the floor. I laughed and shrieked as everyone in the store applauded. Katie cheered, and one of the customers wiped at her eyes.

But there was one more thing to talk about.

Cooper set me down, his eyes sparkling. When he looked at me, his brow furrowed.

“What’s wrong?”

My stomach twisted. What if my news made him change his mind? I couldn’t wait until after the trial. I had to tell him now.

“I need to tell you something. Outside.”

COOPER

I followed Felicity through the rear exit of the store. I was confused, unsure what else there was to talk about. Her face was tight with worry.

“Felicity, whatever it is, we’ll work through it.”

The door shut behind us, and we stood in the sunny parking area. I brought my hand to her cheek and caressed her soft skin. “Did something happen?”

She nodded, looking up at me. “Yes, something happened.” She drew a deep breath that filled her chest. “Cooper, I'm pregnant.”

It took a moment for her words to register in my brain. “Pregnant?” I repeated.

“Yes. It must have happened the first time we slept together.”

I stared at her in shock. “But how? I thought you were on birth control this whole time.”

“I was. But the pill doesn't work if you puke it all up.”

The memory of her stomach bug returned to me. I smacked my palm against my forehead. “Of course. I didn't even think of that.”

She chewed her bottom lip. “I guess neither of us did.”

“Did you know all this time?”

Her eyebrows knit together in worry. “No. I found out two weeks ago.”

I blinked at her, speechless and stunned.

As the silence stretched out between us, her face fell.

“This is exactly what I was afraid of,” she said. “This is why I didn't tell you until now.”

“What do you mean?”

She shook her head. “You're obviously upset. You made it clear you didn't want any more kids. And now you have another one on the way. I… I understand if you change your mind about getting married.”

A smile pulled at my mouth as I looked at her beautiful face. Then I started to laugh. A chuckle at first, then it developed into a full belly laugh.

She frowned. “Are you laughing at me?”

I wrapped her in my arms and pulled her against my chest. “Yes. But in the best possible way. You're adorable, and I love you.” I paused to look down at her. “And we’re having a baby!”
