Chloe: Fresh Meat. I think she’s going to be my girlfriend. I’m DONE with men.

Star: Oh okay. Well, text me if you still want to meet up later. Girlfriend?

Chloe: She’s in the group chat because she’s joining B.G. G

Tara: We’re on our way. I just picked up Celeste. See you soon. Nice to meet you, Star!

I heard someone play music on the jukebox and I was feeling like dancing, and then I noticed my ladies walk through the door. I took my last shot. My ladies sat with me and saw my collection of cups stacking up. Their drinks were served, and they ordered wings, fried pickles and mushrooms, and a bunch of carbs to join the table. They were always the best friends to have because they knew me better than I knew myself.

“What in the actual hell happened, Chloe?” Celeste was never one to sugarcoat anything. She had no filter and was always quick to the point. “Josh was never ballsy enough to cheat on you before. What got into him?”

“I don’t want to talk about it. I have been processing the entire thing and, like a record on repeat, I can’t get beyond the details. We were supposed to be getting married on March 14th. And now, I’m single again. Just like that.” I moaned.

“Well, we have class tomorrow. Shouldn’t we be getting ready for our TA assignments and classes?” Tara was my absolute best friend. She was my ride-or-die. She was the one and only that I could depend on throughout my entire life. We were born in the same hospital on the same day and our mothers were best friends, too. Since we were graduating this year, we took a few of the early classes, which started before the rest of the classes. I’m not sure if everyone had this option, but I had year-round classes and did not get a break. I wanted to knock my five years out in four.

As cliche as it is, we grew up like sisters and were like twins. Tara and I always dressed the same and had similar goals. The only difference is my mother passed away when we were thirteen. Her mom raised both of us. Luckily, my mom and dad left us a huge inheritance, and we had a trust in our names that was helping us get through college.

“Always the logical one, Tara. I really, really don’t want to go to the loft right now.” I was tearing up again. “Let’s just drink it up tonight. We can go to class hungover, and then we will get drunk again until I can look at myself in the mirror without crying.” I took another shot.

“I don’t know about getting drunk every night, but I’m sure that we can get lost in the books like old times. Maybe we can dance a little?” Tara waved her arms and hips at the song playing on the jukebox.

“Let’s take it one hour at a time and see what happens. You never know, Chloe. When you close one door, another door opens.” Celeste was always the philosopher, but she definitely had a point. “Let’s dance and forget today and celebrate closing another door for the rest of our lives!” She grabbed my hands, our rumrunners, and we danced.

Every song that played was upbeat, and we were definitely dancing so much that I was sweating the alcohol. I asked for an iced coffee for me and the girls. I tried to sober us up a bit.

“That guy over there is so hot! Look at his friends! We should crash their sausage fest!” Tara was definitely drunk, but not more than I was. I was down!

“Let’s do it!” I squealed at them and dragged them by the arms. Once I met the demigod trio, I stammered and said, “My name is Chloe, and I’m a virgin!”

The entire bar went quiet beside the music on the jukebox. I think I screamed I was a virgin to everyone in the bar. “Fuck, I said that out loud, didn’t I?” I said, sobering up fast.

“You did, Chloe the virgin. My name is Kevin, this is Eric, and my other friend is Dimitri.” The tallest of the demigods said. His smile had dimples peaking at the top. He was so beautiful. I wanted to draw him and write a novel about every bit of him. The other friends looked so familiar, but I tried so hard to figure out who he was. My whiskey glasses were fogging up. Even though I felt like I knew him, he wouldn’t make eye contact with me.

“Are you…whoa.?” I stopped talking because the room started spinning. Eric took me to the side of the room.

“I will not tell you if I’m a virgin, if that’s what you want to know, Chloe the virgin.” Eric said with another smile. We sat against the stools. The other guy came up to join us. The sexiest men I have ever seen surrounded me.

“Are you okay?” Dimitri was seriously concerned when he asked. I could have for a second thought he was perfect. No, he was definitely perfect. I was beyond drunk. I wasn’t sure what else was going to happen, but I knew I loved looking into his deep blue eyes.

“I haven’t had the best summer, but tonight is getting better by the minute,” I confessed to him. “Do you attend the university?”

“Eric and Kevin just moved here. I’ve been at the university for a while, Chloe. They are replacing a few employees after some controversial scandal went down last year. I’m not at liberty to talk about that, but we’re celebrating them getting the jobs. It should be fun.”

“Chloe,” Celeste winked at me, “Tara, and I are going to go home. We have to get up early in the morning. Do you need a ride home?” Celeste tapped me on my shoulder.

“I’m okay. I can walk home. It’s not too far. Be safe. I’ll see you bright and early. We can meet at the loft.’ I said to her, giving her a hug. “Thanks for coming through tonight. And if you see Josh, just ignore him. She nodded, put her hand on my shoulder, and signaled for me to call her. I nodded back at her. “I love you. Be safe.”

“Chloe the Virgin. I would like to walk you home. I couldn’t live with myself if I let you walk home by yourself.”

“I would definitely love that, Dimitri, the blue-eyed protector,” I said, not knowing what to call him, but it was suiting.

“So, I’m guessing Josh, is why your summer has not been the best?” Eric was prying into my business.

“He is, but he will not be the topic of our conversation. How much trouble can we get into tonight?” I asked them. In every sense of the word, it was a rhetorical question. I’m glad they didn’t answer me. Trouble was brewing within my mind. Chloe the Virgin dies tonight.

We paid the tab, left a beautiful tip, and I made sure that I grabbed all of my belongings. I stumbled out of the bar with Dimitri holding my arm and keeping me grounded.

“What’s the address? I’ll make sure we get there and get you home safely.” He sounded so responsible. I gave him my address, and we headed towards my loft. It was much closer to the bar than my apartment. We were going to meet here in the morning anyway, so it made sense to me.
