I didn’t know what was on Star’s mind, what she got in the mail, or what could possibly be this important. We were still recovering from a near-fatal car accident. Luckily nobody was killed.

I finished cleaning our apartment, making it look mostly how it was before. Then, I headed over to Chloe’s house. I wanted to get this. over with, but. I dreaded it.

When I showed up, Chloe and Star were getting ready to go somewhere. I guess maybe to the store to get our medicine. I forgot to get it while I was out.

“What's going on, Star?” I sat on the sofa beside her. She was staring at forms, but I wasn’t sure what.

“You were arrested in Louisiana?” She blurted. Shit. I forgot about that.

“I was. I was accused of raping a girl, but it was proven that I didn’t ever even talk to the girl and the charges were dropped.” I admitted.

“If I wouldn’t have been willing, would you have raped me?” She asked. I could hear in her voice she was holding back tears. I never wanted to hurt her.

“I couldn’t hurt anyone, Star. And I am honestly ready to kill the three men that keep hurting you. I hate when you cry. Part of me draws up and dies when you’re sad.”

“How could I ever doubt you, Kale?” She asked me.

“So, what really happened?” She added.

“I was the head quarterback at LSU. There were allegations that the football team was drugging cheerleaders and this particular girl got pregnant. She screamed rape and automatically they swore it was me that attacked her. I think it was a power play because I would have never hurt her.” I said.

“Soon after, I was kicked off the football team, thrown in jail for six months, and once the baby was born and wasn’t mine, the charges were dropped and she admitted she slept with so many men she didn’t know who did it. She was expelled from campus and not allowed to attend another one for two years after her false allegations. I left LSU to come to Groveton to start over and a new life. The file was expunged and that’s that.”

“I love you, Kale.” She said which threw me off.

“I love you, too,” I told her. I didn’t want to tell her like this, but it needed to be said.

“Chloe and I are going to go out. I can’t tell you what we’re doing, but I want you to know we have to do this.”

“If it has to do with Bad Girls’ Club, I’m coming with you,” I demanded.

“You’re not coming with us. We need to cut this shit down to nothing and let them know we’re in control.” Star said robotically.

“Okay. Fine. If you don’t want me to help you, don’t come crying back to me when it blows up in your face!” I said and stormed off.

CHLOE

With everything ready to go, Tara was ready and in position, we headed to the Science lab to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Out of nowhere, Garrett sent me a text.

Garrett:: I’d really love to meet up with you this week. Do you think we can make something happen?

Chloe: I have a few things going on, but I might be able to swing something Saturday.

Garrett: Sounds good. How have you been?

Chloe: I’ve been okay. Just trying to sort through life drama right now. You?

We texted back and forth for about thirty minutes. Once we made it to the lab, I put the phone on Do Not Disturb and slid it into my pocket. Whatever was going on with Garrett and me had to wait. I had a lot to figure out before I even began a relationship with him.

We found our seats in the class and took a deep breath.

“Here goes nothing,” I said to Star.
