“We’re all your father, yet none of us are.” Another professor added in. I’d never seen him before.
“Everything will be okay, sweet girl. Let us take care of you. You’ll have all of your dreams come true.”
Kale walked back into the room. “Star, did I interrupt something? I didn’t realize you were part of the slut crew!”
He ran out the door slamming it. Leaving me alone. I lost the love of my life because of my father’s salacious behavior.

“Star, wake up! We’re here!” Kale said, kissing my neck. Thank goddess it was just a dream!
“We’re here already? That was a quick drive!” I joked. I didn’t know how long I was asleep, but I was glad that it was just a dream. I did need to get down to the details of who my real father was. I also needed to set the record straight with my parents. I didn’t care what they did in their spare time, but I would not be a pawn in their little game.
I also set a mental note to get on birth control fast. There was no way I was going to get pregnant while in college. I had goals and I wanted to meet them.
I followed Kale to the tent which held all of the information regarding Skydiving, our equipment, and the two who I assumed would be jumping with us.
“Hello, we had a two-hour skydive appointment. Kale and Star,” Kale announced as we were pulling out our wallets and IDs so that we could get our discount. Being an A student, and in college paid off when it came to discounts!
“Great! You’re early! I do want you to know that no matter what happens, we have your back the entire jump.” The first person said.
“We’re going to be jumping with you, so you’re not alone. We allow you to wear a camera to record the entire jump, so you can watch it again once you’ve calmed down from the adrenaline.” The second guy chuckled.
“That sounds so fun!” Kale and I said at the same time.
They went over the waivers; we signed our life away.
“Just remember, if the door opens and you decide you don’t want to jump, we won’t hold it against you, but know that when you’re with us, you’re safe.” The instructor said again. She later told us her name was Jaz and her partner’s name was Jake. I was paired with Jaz and Kale was paired with Jake.
“We won’t chicken out. If we do, jump anyway,” Kale laughed, but I just looked at him like he lost his ever-loving mind.
Kale
I was scared shitless to go skydiving, but I had something up my sleeve. No matter what happened before coming to Groveton, Star has become one of the highlights of my life. Since everything went down, it took everything to allow everyone to walk free after assaulting her, but she begged me not to. Instead, we went to class together and worked through our homework and were able to get through almost two weeks of neverending cuddling and junk food. I stayed in the shadows and waited for another bad girls club meeting to take place. If one was to take place, I would be sure to attend and shut it down. I planned on arriving with the police, but I didn’t know how far I wanted to take it.
The instructors told us about the equipment, how we were going to get into our harnesses and every step we were going to take. They jump, we fly, they pull a button, the parachute is released, and we coast. Simple enough. What could go wrong?
Star and I went to our own private tent, changed clothes, and joined our instructors to prepare for our takeoff. They went over the terms again, words to remember, and what to do in case anything goes wrong. The main thing they key said was don’t panic! If the harness breaks or isn't fastened properly, don’t panic! If the parachute fails, don’t panic! If the plane eats us, don’t panic!
“So, how many jumps have you done where something went wrong?” Star asked. I wasn’t looking forward to the answer, but I knew nothing was one hundred percent foolproof.
“I’ve only had three jumps that went wrong, but it was because of careless actions and jumping ignorantly. I had one that was a premature jump and one that was equipment issues.”
“That really boosts my confidence,” Star said laughing. I knew she was being sarcastic, but the nervousness was prominent with her laugh.
“I promise both of you are safe with us. Our failure rate is almost none. No matter what happens, you’re safe. Just remember the number one rule…” Jaz said.
“Don’t panic!” We all chimed in together and then laughed.
“That’s right, ladies. Don’t panic and we will all be okay,” Jake said, adding to the conversation.
“Are we ready to go?” Jaz asked.
“I think so. I’m just really overthinking, I guess.” Star said. I knew something was on her mind, but I really wanted her to loosen up and relax. I had everything planned out. Once we jumped, I’d take a risk worse than jumping out of a perfectly safe plane.
“Okay, let’s do this!” Confidently, I took hold of Star’s hand and directed us toward the truck that would transport us to our plane.
“We’re really doing this, Kale?” She looked into my eyes. I could see she was scared, but there was a sparkle that let me know she wanted to jump as much as I did. This was a metaphorical and literal jump in all senses of the word.
