Within the box were all of our ticket stubs, restaurant menus with our favorites circled, a bracelet we made for each other, our best friend’s rings, and a few bookmarks we made for each other. It was our friendship box. I guess we just officially broke up.

I sat on the couch and hugged my blanket. The tears poured out of me without any sign of letting up. I was truly alone for the first time in my life. I almost felt bad enough to call Josh, but I wouldn’t let myself get that low.

I got myself into this mess, I would get myself out.

Star

Chloe was pregnant.

My father wasn’t my father.

What was the next bomb? Is Kale an alien or worse a robot? Is everything on this planet a lie? Life is not fair. Nobody ever lied and said it would be, but things were so much easier when I was not at Groveton. Nothing can be trusted and everything is a lie.

I had two choices. I could go tell Dean everything and see what his stance would be or I could just go to the police. Either way, I didn’t know who was more trustworthy. With all of the scandals I hear about at this university, there’s no telling how much ‘shut up’ money they have to pass around to shut up the females they hurt and humiliate.

There was another Bad Girls' Club meeting today. I decided I would go with Kale and announce his ownership to me. I wasn’t sure of the repercussions of what we were about to do, but I was going to make it known I wasn’t playing and I meant business. I told Kale about my plan and we entered our dorm with a smile. I was literally the happiest I’ve ever been.

We had about an hour before the meeting at three. So, we cuddled and talked about our return. I told him about the revelations I found out and he was as flabbergasted as I was.

“She’s pregnant?” He shook his head, not believing it either, “Karma will get anyone, huh?”

“I’m not sure what to say about it. I wish I knew the right words. I can’t be mad at her for being pregnant. I can be mad at her for not helping when she could.” I said.

“I’m not mad at her but I think she could have protected you better. So what’s the plan today?” Kale said brushing a piece of hair out of my face.

“I wear your ring, we walk into the meeting holding hands and making our relationship known,” I said sternly.

“Oh, I see”. He looked down and away from me. When he closed his eyes and took a deep breath, I knew something wasn’t right.

“What’s wrong?” I asked. Something else was on his mind.

“ Nothing. Let’s get through this. We have fifteen minutes to get there and I want to grab a coffee on the way.” He pulled me to him and kissed me. I could tell something else was on his mind, but I didn’t push it.

It took exactly eight minutes to make it to the coffee bistro, and three minutes from there to the science lab. We were the third people to arrive as a few others were setting up the lab for the meeting. Chloe was there, which shocked me. I didn’t expect to see her there.

Dean Groveton was there. That definitely threw me off.

I didn’t recognize the other two students in the room, but I assumed they were there for the same reason I was.

More students poured into the lab and then professors of all ages and studies. A few which I remembered from the last meeting I attended and a lot I didn’t know other than from passing in the halls and between classes.

“Everyone, we are here today because we need to change a few rules. Not everyone gets to know the Club and the rules as it were before this week, but from here on out, this is a consensual club. If you do not consent, it will be called what it is and you will be removed, charges will be placed and you will be dealt with appropriately. Is that understood?” Dean Groveton nodded as everyone listened to Chloe as she announced to the group. I had no idea what brought this on, I mean, I kind of knew, but this moment made me so proud of her.

“If there are any members here who disagree with the consensual rule, please leave now. No harm. No foul.” Chloe asked again. Everyone stayed.

“If you are under the age of eighteen, please leave.” Three students left.

“If you are here against your will, please leave.” Nobody left.

“I’m going to give all of the females a chance to add a new rule. Once the rule is said, it is the new rule.” Chloe said and passed the mic to me.

“Nothing with family, step, adopted or stolen,” I squeaked. My father and uncles glared at me. I said what I said.

The words flew out of me, but I didn’t know what I was saying.

“I think we should be able to dictate when it happens without repercussions. For example, if someone or a professor wants to meet up, and we need to study for an exam, we shouldn’t be punished for putting our studies first.” Another girl said.

“STD tests and condoms should be provided at each meeting. Nobody wants to get pregnant.”
