“I thought I’d sit on him until they arrive.”

“Gotcha. Guess I’ll wait outside.”

“Hey.”

“Yeah, babe?”

I tossed him my car keys. “Could you swing by my place and get the file folder from my glove box? It’s got this skip’s paperwork.”

“Sure. Be back in five minutes.”

He strolled out, and Gloria called the police.

The officers who showed up laughed pretty hard when they saw me sitting on the old geezer.

“I remember this guy. Hey, Walt. This is the skinny butt who got stuck in the ceiling vent at The Booze Hut.”

“Well, I’ll be damned. So, it is.”

I rode with them to the station. Utah was leaned against his bike when I walked outside.

His eyes swept over me from head to toe. His hand lifted to my hair, and he pulled out a yellow Skittle. “You’re a sticky mess.”

“I know. I need to stop by the office, then I’m going home and taking a shower.”

Ten minutes later, we rolled onto the lot of Sunshine Bail Bonds, and Utah escorted me into the office.

Bill looked up from his desk.

“How are you feeling?” I asked.

“Glad to be up and around. Didn’t get a chance to thank you for what you did. Patty told me you did chest compressions on me until the paramedics arrived. Doctor said you most likely saved my life.”

“I’m glad you’re okay.”

“You gonna introduce us?” Bill nodded to Utah.

“Of course. Utah, this is Bill, my boss. Bill, this is Utah, my… boyfriend.”

“I see.” Bill looked at me. “I called you in because I’m taking that bounty on Ray away from you. It’s too dangerous. You’re too green.”

Utah folded his arms. “Kate may be inexperienced, but she’s not without talents, sir. I think taking this bond away from her would be a mistake.”

Bill’s eyes moved to Utah. “Oh, you do, huh?”

“Kate’s smart, resourceful, and brave as hell. I believe she’s entirely capable of getting her man.”

I stared at Utah, warmth flowing over me as I listened to what he told my boss.

“Oh, really?” Bill cocked a brow.

“She just took in Calvin Hobson on the way here.”

“What?” He turned to me. “Is that so?”

I was still staring speechless at Utah. It took me a moment to respond to Bill. In fact, it took me a moment to even remember he was in the room.

Utah cleared his throat, and I straightened, my eyes moving to Bill. I took a step forward and dropped the paperwork on his desk. “Yes. Here. He’s in lockup.”
