Colt bounced LJ in front of him, but his baby eyes stayed closed. “How can he sleep through all the noise?”
Ben and Abby were fighting for the babies’ attention. Ben was telling them about all the fun things to do at the ranch, and Abby was showing off her latest dance moves.
Remi shrugged, bouncing Ron in her arms while Jameson and Ava unpacked the hospital bags. “Probably the same way you sleep through the alarm clock in the morning.”
She was right. He’d started snoozing the alarm lately. Ben and Abby sucked out all of his energy. Adding a newborn to the mix had him walking through the days like a zombie.
That wasn’t even talking about the nighttime feedings. He’d heated a bottle last night and walked out onto the porch with it before he remembered what he was doing.
Colt sighed. “I can’t stop looking at him. What is wrong with me?”
“I know. It’s weird right?” Remi asked.
Colt leaned LJ over until he touched Ron’s side. “This is your new friend, bud.”
“They’ll get to grow up together. I love it,” Remi said.
Colt tilted his head to the side, studying the little boys. “They look the same.”
“They do not,” Remi said, pushing his shoulder with hers. “Ron actually has hair.”
“LJ has a funny shaped head. Should we be concerned?”
Remi rolled her eyes and groaned. “It won’t stay that way. Did you read the book I gave you?”
“I skimmed it. Nothing about head shapes.”
Remi reached over and brushed the pad of her thumb over LJ’s cheek. “He’s perfect.”
“I agree. Let’s have another one,” Colt said as the idea bubbled in his middle.
Remi leaned back, and her eyes widened. “I am not ready to relive what happened four days ago.”
“Okay, but in a few months, can we–”
A knock at the door interrupted Colt’s plea.
“I’ll get that.” He looked over his shoulder at Remi as he headed for the door. “This isn’t over yet, princess.”
Her grin told him she’d give in pretty soon. If he had his way, they’d have a handful of little Walkers running around.
And Remi? She’d be the best mom. She already was. Ben and Abby loved her, and no one could mistake how head-over-heels she was for little LJ. She’d barely slept in days, but she was rocking the new mom thing.
Colt was doing a good job as a trusty sidekick. He should have just read the book.
He opened Jameson and Ava’s front door, welcoming Ridge and Cheyenne in. “Welcome to the babysitters’ club.”
Ridge
Cheyenne gasped when Colt turned the baby around for her to see. “He’s so precious!”
“Wait till he fills up that diaper,” Colt said. “That isnotcute.”
Ridge’s mouth went dry. Coming over to see the babies was either going to be a good thing or a bad thing, and he was waiting on cues from Cheyenne to see which way things would fall.
Cheyenne cupped her cheeks. “Can I hold him?”
Colt jerked his head. “Come on inside and get all the baby cuddles.”
