JACK

It was like a black cloud had been lifted from my house when I brought the girls back home.

Two weeks later, Macy has completed her placement tests and is about to embark on her first day of private school. Jessie looks like a nervous mother in the drop-off line, with her eyebrows pulled together. “Jack, maybe we should walk her inside. Macy, do you want us to walk in with you?”

“No, Miss Jessie. I can do it myself.”

I kill the engine and walk around to the passenger side of the car. Jessie helps Macy with her book sack and fixes her uniform.

“Have a good day, kid,” I tell her.

She hugs my legs and says, “I will, Uncle Jack. Goodbye, Miss Jessie.”

We watch to make sure she makes it inside alright and get back into the car.

“I’m going to miss her.” Jessie slumps in her seat, and I try my best not to laugh.

“It’s six hours, Jessie. She sleeps longer than that.”

“But I know what she’s doing when she’s asleep. So, what do we do now?”

“I thought maybe a little shopping and then some lunch.”

She smirks and says, “I thought that I was supposed to be your lunch today?”

“Six hours is plenty of time for me to have two lunches.”

We drive to the shopping district and I park the car.

“What are we shopping for?”

“Nothing in particular. I just thought it would be nice to get out for a change. I do have to make one stop, and I need to do it alone so you tell me where you want to start and I’ll meet you back there in a few minutes.”

“Work?”

I hate lying so I say, “Something like that. You know what? I want to go out for dinner tonight. Why don’t you pick out a new dress while you’re waiting for me?”

“Dinner sounds nice but I don’t need a new dress.”

“Buy something for me. Something sexy that I’ll want to rip off you.”

“Okay, Daddy.” She shrugs and bats her eyelashes at me.

“Alright.” I smack her ass. “Go. I’ll be back before you hit the checkout.”

She goes into the store and I hurry down the street to take care of my business. I had something made for her, and I don’t want to ruin the surprise by her seeing where I’m headed.

As expected, it only took a few minutes to complete my errand. I return to the boutique where I left Jessie. I don’t see her and assume that she’s in the dressing room so I slip behind the curtain and call out to her.

“Jessie, are you in here?”

“I am but I don’t think you’re supposed to come back here.”

“I go where I want. You know that. Did you pick a dress?”

“I think so. Hold on. I’m coming out to get your opinion.”
