“Would you move from the door?” she asks, pushing past Topher and into the house.
I take her in slowly, the baby in her arms and the expression on her face. Her blue eyes widen as they meet mine. Then she whirls around to face Topher.
“I told you they were dating!” she says excitedly.
I just stare, confused at the situation. Topher sighs as his brother steps in and shuts the door.
“Yes, tesoro. I’m so glad you were proven right,” Christian says, sarcasm lacing his words.
She frowns, moving toward me. “Hi, I’m Daniella. Christian’s wife. You’re Katherine, right? It’s so nice to meet you.”
I shake her hand, a little dazed. The energy around her is a little overwhelming.
“Nice to meet you, too.”
Her baby reaches forward to touch my hair. He giggles, his brown eyes practically gleaming as he plays with it. I immediately soften, reaching for his hand. He clasps my thumb and something melts in my chest. I’ve always loved kids.
“Hey, little guy,” I say softly.
“His name’s Daniel,” Daniella informs me.
I look up at her with an arched eyebrow and she lets out a soft sigh.
“I know what you’re thinking. At the time, it seemed like such a great idea to name him after me, but now we spend every day regretting it because it’s so confusing.”
“Speak for yourself,” her husband rumbles from the couch.
He and Topher are discussing something in hushed tones. I’m almost positive it has to do with our little adventure yesterday. Topher looks at me once and I feel the heat simmering in his expression down to my toes. Daniella notes it with a smile.
“You have no idea how happy I am the two of you got together,” she states.
“Thank you?” I say, wondering why she’s so happy considering the situation with my dad.
“I might not know you but I know you make Topher happy. He’s family and I want him to be happy. Plus, he’s matured a lot since he met you. I know the thing with your dad is a bit much but who knows, maybe the two of you can settle this ongoing rivalry within our families.”
“Well, it’s not really rivalry. My dad’s job is to uphold the law and the D’Angelo family runs a criminal empire so it’s a little more complicated than that,” I say on a laugh.
“I can hear you, princess.”
He moves behind me, his hand landing on my hip as he looks at his sister-in-law.
“You’re being a meddler. How would you have liked it if I meddled in your relationship?” he questions, his eyebrows raised.
Daniella rolls her eyes. “You did meddle and you were annoying.”
“I definitely don’t remember that.”
“Whatever. Could you hold Dan for a while?” she asks, placing the baby in my hands. “I’ll go make us some refreshments.”
“You’re staying?” Topher asks, sounding annoyed.
“Yep.”
Daniella walks over to the kitchen while I head to the couch and take a seat. Far away from the brooding man with cold brown eyes. Christian smirks as he watches me.
“I had a conversation with your father yesterday,” he starts, making my eyes widen. “He accused me of trying to corrupt his daughter.”
“I’m sorry about that,” I mutter.
