TAYLOR: Yup, just made it to Jackson Falls. Can I Facetime you later to see the baby?
LOGAN: Anytime. You don’t need to ask.
TAYLOR: Thanks. Talk to you soon.
“Is everything all right?” a deep familiar voice spoke from behind me, and wordlessly, I turned and pressed my forehead into Scott’s chest. One of his hands moved to my back, stroking it a little.
“Everything is great,” I sniffled.
“Kind of a conflicting situation, you have to know that.”
I laughed wetly. “She really does love me.”
Scott’s chest expanded in a sharp breath. “I told you; she always has.”
“Even though she knows we are together. She does know that, right?”
He chuckled. “She knows there’s no way I’m stupid enough to spend that amount of time with you and not convince you that you’re madly in love with me.”
My head jerked, and I blinked up at him. “I’m madly in love with you?”
“Oh definitely.” His blue eyes sparkled, “You’re trying to play it cool, but I see right through that.”
I couldn’t help it. I laughed, my entire body buzzing with the acute awareness that this man was everything I could’ve ever asked for. And now I had him. I had him. Oh God… Panic rose and fell for a long moment. Because now I couldn’t lose him.
Clamping my eyes closed, I forced myself to breathe deeply. This was why I didn’t feel feelings or emotions in my relationships. It was so much pressure.
“Just pour on the pancakes, Tay. You can proclaim your love to me from the rooftop later,” Scott said gently, his hand turning my body back to the bar.
“How do you do that? Just soothe me and move on?”
Scott stole my fork from me, grabbing a small bite and putting it in his mouth. “We just work, baby.”
“Oh yeah?”
Scott leaned over, hesitating just over my lips. “Yeah.” And then he pressed a kiss against my lips.

“I can’t believe I ate all those pancakes.”
“I warned you; they expand in your stomach.”
I groaned, curling a hand around my belly. “I can’t move. I have an entire food baby.”
Scott laughed, but when his eyes stole over me, something a lot like heat filled his gaze.
“You can’t possibly be into me right now?”
“Why not?”
“Because I look…”
“It wasn’t how you look, Taylor. It’s what you said.”
“Food babies?”
“A baby.”
