“We can cover more ground in a shorter time.”
“Exactly.”
“You want me to call him, don’t you?” I ask.
“It’s not a short drive out to his place. If you need anything for the travel sickness, we can stop and get it on the way there.”
Somehow, I doubt Silver Grove has an all-night pharmacy so I can grab travel sickness tablets. We’re on the edge of Silver City right now. I’m not asking him to turn back for something so dumb.
It’s already after two in the morning. I don’t want to waste any more precious time when we could be looking for Zelena.
“I’ll be fine,” I tell him, knowing I won’t and not giving a shit.
I’ll do whatever it takes to find my mate.
I’d go to hell and back a million times over for her.
One little helicopter ride won’t kill me.
Chapter Thirty-Five
Zelena
Sleep paralysis is one of my worst nightmares, and it usually only happens when I’ve been working a little too hard. I’m completely awake but I can’t open my eyes and I can’t move my body.
The feeling of someone close to me makes my skin crawl, but I’m still trapped in the position I woke up laying in, on my side, with my hands near my face and my legs curled up under me.
The powerless, out-of-control feeling makes me panic, and that’s when I remember.
I fell asleep in my travel case. I was trapped in there, and eventually the heat and the dark and my body’s own weary state ganged up on me and I passed out.
Am I still in there?
I can’t think of anything worse than waking from sleep paralysis in a dark, enclosed space.
I shiver, and suddenly, I can move.
My eyes snap open, and the brightness of the room makes me squint.
Thank God, I’m not still trapped in the box.
I let out a relieved breath.
Then my eyes start to adjust, and I realize I’m not in the hotel.
Holy hell. I recognize this room!
It was in that weird flash of memory I had about being kidnapped when I was a little girl. The memory that can’t be real because this wasn’t what my childhood bedroom was like at all.
The walls are a soft lilac color, the bedspread has pink roses all over it, and the pink and purple unicorn I was clutching in the dream is lying right beside me on the bed.
I sit up quickly, wondering where the hell I am.
I pinch my arm, but I’m still here.
“This has to be a dream.”
Getting up, I look around.
