Chapter Three

Russ

Anna frowns at me as she ushers us into the dressing room. Her cheeks are bright pink, and I know exactly why she’s pissed off. I also know she won’t say a word in front of the guard she fucked last night, but I’ll be in for a verbal beating later for letting him trade assignments with the guy who usually helps me to transport Zelena.

One look at Zelena, and I couldn’t care any less.

She’s still buzzing from the show, her smile bright as she hums a few bars of one of my personal favorite songs of hers, “Kiss Me All Night.”

Dave, the guard who let Anna drag him to bed, clears his throat and leans against the wall next to his big score. The uptight assistant scowls at me before she plasters on a fake smile and turns to Dave.

“So …” he starts, leaning in close and murmuring a proposition in her ear.

I tune out, not wanting to know the details.

I smile at Zelena as she gets up from her dressing table stool.

“Hey, Russ,” she greets me, my name sounding soft and sultry on her naked lips.

“Hey, Zelena,” I murmur back, unable to keep the smile off my face.

Seeing her so happy makes my own heart sing with joy.

It’s always like this right after a show, and it’s impossible not to get caught up in it.

I steal a glance back at Dave and Anna. Thankfully, they still seem to be discussing … something.

“What’s the plan for the rest of the evening?” I ask, while I open the case.

“Oh, I don’t know. It feels like another movie night. Sound good?” she asks, as she steps into the seat inside the case.

She has such perfectly small feet, hidden away in chunky lilac sneakers. The body she showed off in an array of revealing outfits on stage is now covered by an oversized cotton T-shirt and dark purple sweatpants. With her dark hair up and her makeup off, and that gorgeous, infectious smile on her face, she looks like any other hot girl about to hit the gym.

Lucky for me, she’s about to head to her hotel room to order too many snacks to eat on her own and watch some silly TV movie while I sit next to her on the couch.

“Sounds perfect,” I tell her.

Maybe tonight will be the night.

We’ve been getting closer, gradually.

Spending more time together.

At night, she has to have a member of the team inside her suite, and that team member is supposed to be rotated. I’m glad the rotation rule is unwritten, because Archer likes to make sure she’s as protected as possible at all times. That means at least ninety percent of the time, I’m her night guard.

She’s always seemed comfortable around me, and she seems to enjoy spending time with me before she needs to go grab her beauty sleep.

I wouldn’t have said she was attracted to me until recently, but there’s something more in her gaze when she looks at me now. If it wasn’t for Archer swearing blind that she belongs to us, I’d think I was imagining it.

He’s an Alpha and his intuition is sharp.

I don’t have the instincts he has.

If I did, I’m not sure I could rely on them the way he has.

The thought that a woman so stunning and sweet and talented could be my true mate seems so far-fetched that I’ve been having trouble believing it.

Even if I feel it.
