“I’m in pre-heat, so naps between orgasms are kind of a thing.”

His eyes light with realization. “I thought that was just a heat thing.”

I yawn. “Pre-heat isn’t really talked about much.”

My eyelids close as he starts to unknot the tie that’s still around my neck.

His fingertips brush my throat, making me shiver lightly as I start to drift off to sleep.

I’m a claimed Omega now. I only wish I could ask him to mark me, too.

As much as it pains me, I know that’s a line we can’t cross.

No one can prove I’ve been claimed.

A mark is different. It’s the visible sign of a mating bond.

There’s no place I could have him bite me that I could hide.

We’d be separated if anyone found out that we’re mates.

But I’m not worried about that.

Neither of us will allow it to happen.

Chapter Eleven

Russ

I’m not so sure this is only a nap that Zelena’s taking, but there isn’t much I can do about it now.

All I can do is make sure she’s comfortable. So, I put fresh sheets over her, and then I gather my stuff and go into the other room to get dressed. I leave her door ajar, the way it always needs to be for her safety, and then I head to the bathroom, leaving my clothes in the main room of the suite.

I need to call Archer, but I also have to do my usual check in with the hallway guard now that Zelena’s in bed. I should wash my mate’s perfume off before I put my clothes on.

It goes against my instincts, but this is how it’s going to be while she’s under contract.

We can’t risk anyone finding out what happened tonight.

So, I get a towel wet and start wiping myself down.

Fuck, this feels wrong. I should be lying in bed next to her right now, not washing her scent off.

I keep going anyway, knowing the job needs to be thorough. I can’t mess this up.

When I’m done, and the towel’s been washed until there’s no trace of scent on my body or in the room, I pick up the mouthwash that’s sitting on the counter and I scowl at it.

I can still taste her sweetness on my tongue. I don’t want to wash it away.

I doubt anyone will get close enough to me to notice that, never mind know what it is.

Still, I know what Archer would say if I didn’t do it.

I set the bottle down. I didn’t eat tonight.

I’ll come back in here once I’ve had some hot sauce coated wings.

No point rinsing my mouth out twice.
