Maybe by the time I’m awake, Cameron will be back, and everyone will know the truth.
It’s probably wishful thinking, but a girl can dream.
Chapter Sixty-Nine
Dale
This is a dream. It has to be. I was just getting used to the idea of Zoey being back, and now I’ve claimed her as my mate and I’ve been claimed by her Beta, who has serious Alpha energy in the bedroom, and who doesn’t seem to feel like he’s fully claimed me yet.
He moans into my mouth as he tugs me closer, rolling on top of me and pinning me down under his toned body. I can feel the hard outline of his shaft rubbing against my leg as he sinks his tongue into my mouth. The desire inside him feels like it’s just woken up, and it’s only going to keep growing.
When he breaks the kiss, I look up at him.
“Don’t get me wrong,” I start, “I’m into this. I’m really all the way into it …”
“But?” he asks in a husky whisper that makes my toes curl.
“Oh, God,” I murmur. “I barely know a thing about you.”
He smiles. “You know my name is Russ Kent, and I’m a bodyguard.”
“Uh-huh. That’s a start.”
“Helicopter flights make me feel sick,” he admits. “But I just spent four hours on one of those to get out here because it’s where my mate was. I would do whatever it takes to look after my mates.”
“That’s good to know.” Although, I could do without being reminded of Cameron.
“I could tell you the biggest secret I’ve got. I haven’t even told Zoey, yet.”
“That sounds interesting. Why haven’t you told Zoey?”
“I wasn’t sure how she’d react. At the time. I’m pretty sure she’d be cool with it now that I know how she feels about sharing her mates with each other.”
“You’ve got a thing for your Alpha,” I guess, knowing I’m right when his cheeks flush with color.
“He doesn’t know. I’ve been attracted to him since we met, but he’s never indicated that he feels that way about me, so …”
“You’ve kept it all to yourself.”
“And now, you know.” He leans in and kisses my throat, making me shiver.
He shared something personal that he’s been struggling with, and he only feels a little bit vulnerable about it. He trusts me with his secret. It feels good to know he’s not just attracted to me physically.
“I’ve wanted Zane for years,” I admit. “It hurt when he let me go to focus on finding Zoey, but I understand why now. He couldn’t think about a future without her in it. I know he would have done the same thing if I’d been the one to go missing. It wasn’t that he loved her more. He just knew we were all meant to be together, so that’s what he chased for.”
“Well, you’re all together now. On this island,” he tells me.
“I know, and you’re here, too,” I remind him.
He smiles. “There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”
“I think I might be getting close to my heat,” I confess.
“I think you might be, too,” he agrees. “Do you want me to go get Zane?”
I shake my head against the pillow. “I’m not there yet. I’d rather stay here with you. Just a slightly more naked you would be nice.”
He moves back and gets up, taking off his pants and dropping them to the floor with his underwear.
