I watch her leave until she disappears from sight.

Then, I blow out a breath and look at the keys in my hand.

Did that really just happen?

“Forget about it,” I mutter as I go to the hangar. “You can’t say yes.”

It doesn’t matter how much Dale wants me here, and it doesn’t matter that his Omega girlfriend thinks I could be hers, too. Zane would have to get down on his knees and beg to make it worth coming back and staying. Even then, I’d want to see him prove his worth to Dale, and I’m not sure there’s anything he could do to make up for abandoning his Omega when he needed him most.

Chapter Sixty-Four

Zoey

I’m not sure what I expected when I came out to meet Cameron, but to perfume and know he’s meant to be mine like the others was a surprise. Mates can be fated or chosen, and I thought Dale chose him. Maybe that’s what he thinks, too. I didn’t perfume immediately when I met Russ. It doesn’t always happen at first sight. I wasn’t ready for mates when I met my Beta. I think that’s why it was slow to happen. Now that it has, everything’s been put on fast forward.

I’ve perfumed for my Alphas, and I’ve perfumed for Dale’s Beta.

It hasn’t happened with Dale yet, but he hasn’t perfumed for me either.

I’m not sure he’s ready. If I had to guess why, I’d place my bets on Cam not being here with us.

My to-do list is slowly getting longer. Now as well as getting Archer and Russ to really believe what happened to me as a kid, I need to make sure Zane knows he has a lot to make up for with Dale, and he also needs to convince Cam that he should stay with us when he comes back.

At least Cam’s gone to check into things that will help prove I’m Zoey Rodriguez.

That’ll help with Archer’s mistrust of Zane.

Thankfully, Russ seems less intent on punishing my kidnapper and more open to hearing about what I’ve been remembering since I started to get my childhood memories back.

He’s waiting for me by the side of the pool when I get there.

“I thought Dale might like it better if we both came to check on him together,” he explains as I walk over to where he’s standing, leaning against the trunk of a tree. “This place is really something.”

“It is, isn’t it?” I say as I put an arm around him and lean into his side while we gaze over the pool.

“I can’t believe you have another Alpha,” he admits.

“And another Omega,” I remind him. “Possibly another Beta, too.”

“Ah,” he murmurs. “That’s why you wanted to speak to Cameron?”

“He has a whole thing with Dale, and I wanted to meet him to see if I felt a connection.”

“And you felt one?”

“He’s definitely supposed to be here with us.”

“Well, Archer likes him,” he tells me.

“You don’t?” I ask, a little worried.

“It’s not so much him, it’s his helicopter. I don’t fly well in those things.”

“Well, don’t worry about flying away anytime soon. I need you here.”

“I wasn’t thinking about it. This place could be really good for us.”

“I definitely needed a vacation.”
