It’s never happened before. Not once. No matter how many times I wished it would.
I didn’t ever perfume for him. I didn’t perfume for anyone.
Now, he’s back in front of me after we’ve broken up, and it’s finally happening?
Right after I’ve decided I’ll accept Zane’s mark. What are the chances?
Cam shakes his head and moves back a little bit. “Well, I guess we know who you belong with.”
I stare at him, not sure why he sounds so bitter. “I just—”
“Tell the guys I’ve gone to fuel up.” He walks away quickly.
All I can make myself do is stand there frozen in place, watching him leave.
Chapter Fifty-Nine
Zane
A whole new pack is about to be formed right here in this hotel on this private island. That thought makes me smile. Zoey’s other mates might be in denial right now, but that’s because they still think her name is Zelena. They’ll see the truth for themselves, soon enough.
No one’s leaving anytime soon. I made damn sure of that.
I also made sure to turn the Wi-Fi off before I left the observation room with Zoey and Dale earlier, so no one’s going to be making any calls, incriminating or otherwise.
I wriggle a little in the dining room chair. It’s funny how hard it is to get comfortable when your hands are tied behind your back. I have to keep wriggling my fingers to keep them from going numb, too.
The Beta sitting across from me is recording our conversation on his phone.
He seems way more chill than the Alpha.
I figured out by Zoey’s very different reactions to them both that he’s the one who triggered her perfume, not the Alpha. It makes sense given that her contract wouldn’t permit the Alpha to be near her, and that also tells me this guy is used to playing by the rules. It’s unusual for a Beta to be the first to trigger a perfume in a pack situation, but the circumstances of Zoey’s life haven’t been ordinary since the day she was stolen away from her childhood home.
She’s been kept away from her true mates for much too long.
We’re all long overdue to bond with our Omega.
She’s so close to her heat I can taste it on the air.
With all her mates around her, now, it’s going to happen soon, and it’s going to hit her hard.
I don’t think her other Alpha is prepared for that. He’s too busy acting like he’s doing his job.
Pretending it still matters, when the truth is blindingly obvious.
He can’t go back to working for those assholes who call themselves her parents.
They don’t care about her beyond how much money she can make them.
He’s read her contract. He knows the rules. He knows why they exist.
Breaking them is the only way to free Zoey from the grasp of those awful people.
She’s not Zelena, but she’s an Omega, and Omega’s need to be marked to be free of their guardians.
I’ll have to let Archer mark her first. I hope he’ll let me watch.
My teeth tingle thinking about that.
