I step out of the bathroom and realize Zane and Dale must have been in bedroom tidying up the mess I made earlier when I was frustrated. That’s why they were there when I woke up.

Quietly moving to the door, I listen for a minute before I decide I can’t hear anything.

I open it and find them standing there, facing each other.

Zane has one arm wrapped around Dale, whose T-shirt I’m just noticing is more Zane’s size and color.

“Are you wearing his shirt?” I ask Dale, my eyebrow raised.

He laughs. “I am. Because I woke up in nothing but these neon swim shorts by the side of the pool, and I didn’t want to weird you out when I came to talk to you in the kitchen.”

“Well, thanks for that, but I think it was more what you said that weirded me out.”

“Uh, yeah. I’m sorry about that. I didn’t realize what I was saying until I was saying it.”

“That’s okay. You said something about feeding me?”

Dale looks at Zane. “You want to lead the way to the kitchen, or will I?”

“The kitchen? I know where that—”

“Not his mom’s replicated kitchen. The hotel kitchen.”

“Um, what? This is a hotel?” Now, that’s a surprise.

Dale laughs. “Yeah. Kind of. You’ll see what I mean.”

“I mean, I wanted this place to have a use after this whole thing,” Zane murmurs.

“Here, take your shirt back,” Dale tells him, taking it off and putting it against his bare chest. “You can lead the way. I’d better go grab some less revealing clothes from my room.”

“We should get Zoey something, too,” Zane says. “Hers are in the closet in the room next to yours.”

“Um, you have some of my clothes that aren’t from the past?”

That’s a relief. I thought I was going to have to walk around in these same sweats until Zane decides we can leave this hotel he apparently owns and is still fixing up.

“They’re your size,” Zane explains. “Getting you out of the hands of your security team wasn’t simple. Buying a bunch of new clothes seemed safer than trying to also raid your wardrobe.”

“Don’t worry,” Dale tells me, “I’ll pick something you’ll be comfy in.”

“Thanks.” I smile at him as Zane opens the door to a room that’s full of TV screens.

He hits a switch on the wall and the screens go off.

“Um, what was that?” I ask, a little alarmed.

Zane goes to the door at the back of the room and unlocks it.

Dale rolls his eyes when I look at him. “Zane doesn’t think you’ll be happy to know he’s been watching you. I mean, he kind of had to since he was leaving you to remember shit on your own instead of talking to you.”

“Tell me there wasn’t a camera in the bathroom.”

Sighing, Zane turns back around. He flips the screens on and motions to them.

“There are no cameras in the bathrooms. I needed them in the bedroom and the kitchen. That’s all.”

“And you weren’t planning on speaking to me?” I ask him.
