I can’t help the snort of laughter that comes out of me. He’s got Peter’s number. The guy doesn’t have a clue.

I climb into the box, moving my hand back when Harvey tries to help.

“Don’t you dare flirt with me,” I tell him.

The smile he gives me this time is pure amusement.

He holds up his hands. “I wouldn’t dare.”

Peter’s scowling at us both as I sink into the seat.

Anna’s actually smiling.

Yeah, it’s better to have friends at work. It’s way more fun.

“Get that lid closed and let’s get this show on the road,” I tell Harvey, ready to be back in my suite.

“Keep your fingers inside the box,” he warns me as he pulls the lid closed.

Now that I’m alone in the dark, my heart starts to race.

It’s a bumpier ride than I’m used to, and I know that’s because I’m not being transported out to the van by Russ. He had it down to an art. Harvey’s new, and Peter’s probably trying to rush through this so he can reassure his wife that he had his hands on my box for the shortest amount of time possible.

Not that he’d be allowed to tell her about the box. Less than a dozen people know about it, and they’ve all had to sign disclosure agreements. If everyone knew, it would defeat the purpose.

Archer thought of everything when I asked if we could try moving me from place to place in a different way. He’s the one in charge of my safety so it wasn’t something he agreed to without questioning every last detail first.

He’s been protecting me from a distance for years, and despite barely spending any time in his presence I feel like I know him. Maybe I don’t know all the details about his life, but I know who he is.

He’s a meticulous planner who needs structure to function at his best.

He’s careful and he won’t take a risk without considering the consequences.

I’m not sure what he was thinking, coming backstage to watch me tonight.

It’s the first time he’s done something I couldn’t explain.

I don’t think he would come so close to breaking the rules without a reason.

Russ broke the rules. Maybe that made him reconsider the wisdom in following them.

Either that, or he was running on instinct.

Alphas rely on their instincts when there’s not much else to go on, and that’s what works for them.

Omegas do best when they follow their hearts.

Mine already knows these men are right for me.

I’ve never had these feelings for anyone else.

This is something special. I know it is.

My heat is going to come in soon now that I’m getting closer to the men who were always meant for me, and I’m relieved I found them before it could happen.

They make me feel safe and secure.

I know they’ll protect me.
