Then, he perfumes, and holy fucking hell, his scent mixes with Zelena’s so perfectly that I know they belong together as mates, and we all belong together as a pack.
When he rushes away, and Zelena frowns after him, I don’t know what to do.
“Should we go after him?” I ask, feeling a little blindsided by what just happened.
She lets out a sigh. “I think he needs a minute.”
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
“It’s more like something didn’t happen,” she says, looking at me and blinking. “Something just happened between you, didn’t it?”
She can feel it. I know she can. There’s no point in denying it.
I nod. “I think … It felt like he’s my true mate.”
She smiles brightly. “You don’t know how happy that makes me.”
“It does?” I ask, glad that she’s not mad, but kind of feeling like she can’t be serious.
Omegas and Alphas are the ones who get to have multiple mates to satisfy their needs. I’m just a Beta. It shouldn’t be happening for me.
“It does,” she assures me, moving in close to kiss me.
I kiss back slowly, wanting more.
She breaks the kiss. “I need to go speak to Cameron.”
“Should I go speak to Dale?” I ask, looking back.
She shakes her head. “Let’s give him a few more minutes. I think he needs it.”
She takes my hand and leads me out to the side of the pool.
“Archer asked me to give Har … uh, Cameron, I guess, the keys to the hangar,” I tell her. “I got them out of Zane’s pocket when I checked him for any weapons. He also wants to ask Cameron to check into some stuff on the mainland and come back.”
She holds out her free hand. “I’ll pass that stuff along. I might need to talk to him on my own for a second.”
“I know Dale is the guy Cameron’s been seeing,” I tell her. “Archer’s told me some stuff.”
“Yeah,” she says. “I think Cameron’s supposed to be a part of our pack, but I need to go talk to him about it, and that might go a little easier if you leave us alone together.”
“Sure,” I tell her, feeling fine about it.
I know Harris is a decent guy. I don’t have any problem leaving him alone with my mate.
“Maybe I can go back and check on Dale while you talk to him.”
“Sounds like a plan,” she says. “Do I need to tell Cameron anything about this note?”
“Right. Yeah. So, Archer said he should tell Seth the info is for Archer, and he’ll pay whatever he needs for it, and he also said he’ll pay Cameron whatever he wants to come back with the info.”
“Okay, perfect. Walk with me for a little bit?”
I nod and we walk toward the private airway.
