That pisses me off. It’s unacceptable.
Whoever the fuck this guy thinks he is, he’ll be lucky to make it to a prison cell by the time I’m done with him.
I move down the corridor toward a set of double doors, where my true mate’s scent is getting stronger. It’s heavy enough on the air here to become divinely intoxicating. The surge of desire that rolls over me is enough to make me pause.
I’m not too Alpha to realize my mate’s perfume is affecting me.
It wouldn’t be smart to charge into that room without recognizing that and attempting to correct the impairment. Closing my eyes for a few seconds, I remind myself I’m here to protect her.
Not to march into that room to claim my mate and mark her throat.
No matter how badly her scent makes me want those things.
Christ, she was intoxicating enough with that warm, husky voice and those deep, dark eyes.
The soft, sweet perfume she has is a temptation too far.
It takes every shred of willpower I can gather to rein in the urges that soar through my body with every breath I take. My teeth are sharpening despite my best intentions, and my cock is already pushing out the front of my pants, swelling just a little to remind me my unclaimed Omega mate is on the other side of those doors.
All I’m here to do is rescue her from a kidnapper. Nothing more.
Yet, the more I tell myself that, the more it feels like a joke.
The cool exterior I’ve exuded since I took control of Zelena’s team has been shattered into a million pieces. I told myself I could wait as long as it took. That I didn’t need to worry about Zelena going anywhere. When mates are fated, they end up together.
There’s no escaping the pull of a true mate.
I still believe in that. I’ll always believe in that.
My only regret is letting rules make me wait.
Now, I have to wait for other reasons, and the thought is killing me.
Suck it up. She needs you.
Pushing the doors inward, I step into the kitchen, where I find Zelena standing close to her kidnapper, her gaze fixed on his face. She doesn’t look over. She doesn’t pull her attention from him.
She’s perfuming for him.
The thought enrages me.
I stride toward them, letting the door swing closed behind me.
“Let Zelena go,” I bark at the Alpha, removing my gun from its holster and training it on him. “Let her go, or I’ll make you let her go.”
He turns to look at me with the hazy stare of an Alpha under the influence of an Omega’s perfume. Even so, he positions his body to shield hers when he sees the gun in my hand.
“This isn’t what you think it is,” he tells me.
I move a little so I can see Zelena is okay.
She stares at me, her deep, dark eyes wide with shock.
“Move away from Zelena,” I warn him.
“You don’t understand—” he starts.
I’m done with this whole situation. They’re standing too close to a whole fucking rack of knives, and I have no idea what her kidnapper is capable of. Now isn’t the time to stick to the rules.
