“Okay. Let him know I’ll be in my office. I have some research to do.”
“Will do, Charlotte.” She smiled.
CHAPTER33
ONE WEEK LATER
Grayson
“Conner, put your daughter down and let’s go,” I said as Gabriel, Christian, and I stood in his living room.
“I’m coming. Bye, my little angel.” He held her tight as he kissed her head.
Charlotte took her from his arms. “Thank you,” she mouthed at us.
“Come on, bro.” Christian hooked his arm around him. “We’re going to have some fun tonight.”
It was the opening night of a new art gallery downtown that happened to be owned by a friend of ours back in college. He had come from a family of doctors and studied medicine because that was what was expected of him, until one day, he couldn’t take it anymore, said fuck it, and pursued his dream of art. He knew everything there was to know about art history and the art world. It didn’t surprise us when he called to tell us he was moving to L.A. to open an art gallery.
After seeing our friend and looking at some art, the four of us stopped for a drink and appetizers at Lucky’s Bar & Grill. The place was crowded, but we managed to snag a table for four.
“Put that phone away, or I’m breaking it.” Christian pointed at Conner.
“You wouldn’t dare.” Conner narrowed his eye at him.
“Wouldn’t I?” Christian’s brow arched.
After we placed an order for drinks and appetizers, I excused myself from the table and headed to the restroom. On my way back, I stopped up at the bar to see what beer they had on tap. I wanted to know what my options were for when I finished the scotch that I’d ordered. Since we had arrived, more people packed the place, and patrons were waiting around the bar for a seat to open up.
“Excuse me? Can I get in here really quick?” I asked two guys that were standing there. “I just want to see what they have on tap.”
“Yeah. Go ahead.” One of the gentlemen moved to the side.
“Thanks. I appreciate it.”
As I was standing there, looking at their taps, someone pushed past me and knocked me into the woman sitting on the stool in front of where I stood.
“What the hell?” I yelled at the guy, and he ignored me.
The woman turned around. Our eyes met, and I was speechless for the first time in my life.
“I am so sorry,” I said as she grabbed a napkin and started wiping off the drink that spilled all over her dress. “Some asshole bumped into me.”
“Don’t worry about it. It’ll come out.”
I grabbed a few more napkins and handed them to her. “At least let me pay for your dry cleaning bill.”
“That’s nice of you, but I can just throw it in the washing machine when I get home.” A small smile crossed her lips as her baby blue eyes stared into mine.
“Okay. Again, I’m sorry.”
“It wasn’t your fault. Don’t give it another thought.”
I gave her a smile and went back to the table.
“What was that all about?” Gabriel asked.
“Who was that attractive woman you were talking to?” Christian smirked.
