“We’ll see.” A smile crossed her lips. “I’m going to check on your bride. I’ll see you boys when it’s time.”
“Are you and Charleigh leaving tonight for Paris?” Simon asked.
“Yeah. We’re heading to Shaun’s plane right after the reception. It’s a long flight, so we’ll have plenty of time to celebrate our marriage and get some sleep.”
The front door opened, and Charleigh’s father walked in.
“Hi, Gordy.” The corners of my mouth curved upward.
“Dr. Christian Kind.” He walked over and shook my hand before pulling me into an embrace. “You look great, son.”
“Thanks, Gordy. So do you.”
“I just want to say a few things before the ceremony,” he said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better man to give my daughter’s hand to. You truly are your father’s son, Christian, and I’m proud to call you my son.” Tears filled his eyes.
“Gordy.” My eyes swelled.
“It’s true. You make my daughter extremely happy, and that’s all I ever wanted her to be. I never thought I’d see this day.” He brought his finger up to his eye. “Not only because of how Charleigh felt after her heart transplant, but because of what happened to me. You gave me this day, and I will be forever grateful to you.”
“Aw, Gordy.” I hugged him. “I couldn’t have asked for a better father-in-law.”
“Okay.” He took in a breath. “You guys better get outside and take your places. The guests are arriving.” He placed his hand on my shoulder. “The next time I see you, I’ll be walking your bride down the aisle.” A smile crossed his lips.
CHAPTER28
Charleigh
“Why am I nervous?” I looked at the girls who stood before me, looking as beautiful as ever.
“It’s natural to be nervous.” Charlotte smiled.
“We all were nervous,” Emilia said.
“I wasn’t.” Jenni grinned. “I couldn’t wait to walk down that aisle to my man.”
“She really wasn’t nervous at all,” Grace said. “It was weird.”
“My sister was already weird.” Julia laughed.
The front door opened, and Aunt Barb walked in.
“My girls.” She smiled. “You all look so beautiful. Charleigh.” She walked over and took hold of my hands. “You are simply stunning.”
“Thank you, Aunt Barb.”
“The guests are arriving and taking their seats. It’s almost time. Are you ready?” she asked.
“As ready as I’ll ever be.”
“I’m heading down to the beach. I’ll see you girls there.” She smiled as she walked out the door.
I took in a long, deep breath as Jenni handed me my bouquet.
“Let’s do this.” She smiled. “Your groom is waiting for you.”
