“I’ll be back in a couple of hours. I love you.”

“I love you too. Dad, I need you to be okay. I need my dad to walk me down the aisle.” A tear fell down my cheek.

“He’s going to be okay, sweetheart.” My mom reached over and gripped my hand. “I never lost hope for you, and I’m not losing hope for your father.”

I opened my eyes as a stream of sun filtered through the room. I lifted my head and saw Christian standing over my father, examining him.

“What time is it?” I sleepily asked.

“It’s six a.m.”

I looked over at my mom sitting in the lounge chair, sipping a cup of coffee.

“I brought you one,” Christian said as he took the coffee cup from the tray and handed it to me.

“Thanks, babe.” I yawned and brought the cup to my lips.

Suddenly, my father’s eyes opened, and he started gasping.

“Dad!”

“Calm down, Gordy. You have a tube down your throat,” Christian said.

“Dad, stay still while Christian removes it.” I squeezed his hand.

“What happened?” my dad asked.

“You went into cardiac arrest at the restaurant, Gordy,” Christian spoke. “You have ventricular arrhythmia, so I had to go in and insert an ICD.”

“You’re going to be just fine, Daddy.” I kissed his cheek.

“You gave me a very big scare, Gordy,” my mom said. “Don’t ever do that to me again.”

“You don’t have to worry about that. There’s no way I’m not walking my daughter down the aisle.” He brought his hand up to my cheek.

CHAPTER19

Christian

“Today’s the big day.” I smiled as I walked into the kitchen and saw Grayson standing over the stove making French toast.

“No offense. I really enjoyed my stay here with you and Charleigh, but I’m happy to have my own place.”

“No offense taken.” I patted his back. “Make me some of that French toast, will you?”

“Coming right up.” He smiled. “After I eat and take a shower, I’m packing up and heading over to the house. The furniture is being delivered between noon and two.”

“Does this mean you’re having a big party tonight?” I smirked.

“Damn right, I am, and you and Charleigh better be there.”

“As long as no emergency surgeries come up, I will be.”

“Are Conner and Nathan coming back today?” he asked.

“Yeah. They’re only in San Francisco for the day. They’ll be back by evening. You’re starting at the hospital on Monday, right?”

“Yes, and I can’t wait. I really miss working.” He plated the French toast and handed it to me.
