“Shit. That chick was full-on crazy.” He shook his head as he sat down in one of the loungers. “My brother sure knows how to pick them.” He smirked.

“Shut the fuck up. You’ve had your share of crazies too.”

“Touché, bro.” He held up his coffee cup to him.

Glancing at my watch, I noticed it was time for me to leave.

“As much as I’d love to stay here and chat with you two handsome men all day, I have to get to the hospital. What do you have planned for today?”

“We’re going to look at cars,” Grayson said.

“Fun!” I grinned. “Have a great day, and I’ll see you later.”

“Bye, Charleigh,” they both spoke at the same time.

When the elevator doors opened, Christian was standing on the other side.

“You’re late.” A smirk crossed his lips.

“Only by two minutes.” I poked my finger into his chest as I stepped off the elevator.

“Two minutes longer that made me miss you.” He wrapped his arm around me and kissed my lips.

“I was having coffee with your cousins.”

“In that case, you’re forgiven.”

“How is your patient?” I asked.

“It was a close call, but he should be okay.”

“Good.” I reached up and kissed him. “I have patients to see. See you later, yeah?” I smiled.

“You bet. Unless an emergency comes in, I’ll be in the research room all day.”

“Okay. Have fun.” I walked away.

I had back-to-back appointments today with patients who were coming in for check-ups. I grabbed my first patient’s chart and stepped into the room.

“Good morning, Lucy.” I smiled.

“Good morning, Charleigh.”

“How are you feeling?”

“I feel good. Really good.” She smiled.

“And how is that handsome husband of yours?” I asked as I listened to her heart.

“He’s doing great. There’s something I want to talk to you about.”

“Okay.”

“John and I want to start trying for a baby. I know the doctors advise to wait one year after a heart transplant, but I’m two years out now, and I’m already thirty-five.”

“There are a lot of serious risks for you and the baby, Lucy.”

“I know, Charleigh. I’ve done the research. John and I are fully aware of the risks involved.”
