“Charleigh said she’ll be right down.” I walked back into the room.

“Here’s his EKG results, Dr. Kind,” Tracy spoke.

“Thanks, Tracy.” I studied it. “Did his Troponin come back yet?”

“Let me check,” she said as she typed away at the computer. “Yes, Dr. Kind. It’s back.”

“Mr. James!” Charleigh exclaimed as she walked in and over to his bedside. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m not feeling so good, kiddo.”

I looked at his heart enzyme results and then back at the EKG.

“You had me paged?” Nathan walked into the room.

“Mr. James, I would like you to meet my brother, Dr. Nathan Kind, plastic surgeon. Nathan, meet Mr. James. Do you have time to stitch his head?”

“Sure. How did this happen, Mr. James?” Nathan asked as he examined his head.

“I was in the kitchen when I passed out, and I guess I hit the edge of the counter before hitting the floor.”

“Mr. James, I’ll be right back,” I spoke as I gestured for Charleigh to meet me in the hallway.

“Did he have a heart attack?” Charleigh asked.

“I’m not sure. His heart enzymes are elevated, but the EKG isn’t convincing me enough. I’ll admit him and schedule an angiogram for later this afternoon.” I glanced at my watch. “I have another surgery in about thirty minutes.”

Charleigh and I walked back into the room just as Nathan finished stitching his head.

“Mr. James, I’m going to admit you to run more tests.”

“What kinds of tests?” he asked.

“I’m scheduling an angiogram for later this afternoon. Meanwhile, I have another surgery I have to scrub in for, so I’ll see you later.”

“Thanks, Dr. Kind.”

Nathan and I walked out of the room and went up to the surgical floor.

“What’s up, my brothers?” Conner smiled. “Do you two have time to grab some lunch?”

“I wish. I have to scrub in,” I said. “I’ll see you guys later.”

Idecided to put Mr. James under a local anesthetic in case I needed to put in a stent.

“His arteries look clear,” Charleigh said.

“Let’s get him hooked up for an echocardiogram,” I told my scrub nurse, Mary.

“Christian, look,” Charleigh said as she pointed to the monitor.

“I’ve only seen this once before. See if my brothers, Conner and Nathan, are available,” I told Mary.

“Sure, Dr. Kind.”

A few moments later, Conner and Nathan stepped into my O.R.
