“Don’t you have a home?” I ask, glancing around the room.

“I got an apartment, I’m barely there.”

Interesting. Do they all have apartments? If so, why? They might as well just live in this big house, considering they’re always here.

“You’d rather spend all your time here?”

I’m not surprised. People like this, this life is their world. I know because my mother was barely home. It’s the way it goes when you’re a bad person doing awful things.

“This is my family.”

“Do you have a job?”

“Paint cars in the garage when I’ve got time.”

“Where do you get all your money then?”

“Enough questions,” he grinds out, walking over to the bed and pulling the covers back. “Shower is down the hall, lock the door.”

I stare at the bed. “Are you getting in with me?”

He glances at me, his face unamused. “No.”

“Shame.”

“What happened was a one-time thing. You’re here now because we need you. If we didn’t, you’d be dead. I’m not fuckin’ the enemy.”

I snort. “Don’t be so dramatic. I’m not your enemy and it didn’t stop you before.”

“I needed answers before. Now, I’ll get them the easy way.”

“You owe me, technically,” I point out.

He gives me a look that has my skin prickling. “I don’t owe you shit. The fact that you’re alive and walking around is my payment to you. You got what you wanted; you’re not chained up. You give us something worth talkin’ about, and you’ll have a lot more freedom.”

Oh well, I tried.

I guess I’ll have to come up with something then.

Lucky for me, I know a lot of bad people.

It won’t take much to redirect them.

I’ll come out on top.

I always do.

“YOU MUST BE ACACIA. Everyone is talking about you, girl. You’re hot topic.”

I’m staring out of the window after waking up from a long sleep. I don’t know what time it is, but it’s evening, and there is some kind of party happening downstairs. Looking out the window, I can see a good lot of people milling around, drinking, and partying. The scent of marijuana flows through the breeze.

I wouldn’t mind joining in.

Facing the girl speaking to me, I immediately recognize her. Everyone knows who she is after the big story about Western went down in the papers. Her name is Bonnie, and until me,shewas hot topic. Everyone was talking about her, and she had a lot of bad people after her. Hell, she probably still does. The men she was messing with don’t just roll over and let things go.
