“You don’t make the rules,” Western grinds out.

“No, I don’t, but this time ... Iam.”

The two men face off, their eyes hard, their stares unwavering. I watch in mild fascination as the staring contest continues, and, shockingly, Western nods. “She doesn’t leave this club without an escort. You want to trust her, it’s on you. If it goes wrong, Mex, then it’s your blood that I’ll spill and believe me, I’ll fuckin’ spill it.”

Mex nods, sharply.

Then he takes my arm and pulls me out the door.

He stood up for me, but that doesn’t mean he should trust me.

No, he really shouldn’t be giving me so much credit.

Not when I’m going to destroy his life.

“Ineed to make a call,” I say, as Mex pulls the last stitch through the back of my head. My voice is tight, but I don’t make a sound. “It’s urgent.”

“Why?” Mex questions, putting some sort of liquid solution on the back of my head before standing up.

It stings, and my eyes water as I wait for that sensation to pass. It takes a minute, but finally, it does, and the wound feels weirdly numb. I don’t want to know what he puts on it, but whatever it is, it worked.

“I’m sure by now you’ve figured out that with my mother MIA, things are going to erupt. If you want answers, the only way you’ll get them is if I can keep things calm until I can locate her.”

Mex walks around in front of me, staring down, his shirt bloodied after cleaning me up. “I’ll let you make a call, but not before you give me something to work with. If you don’t want to be locked up like a fuckin’ slave, then you need to start cooperating.”

I figured he’d ask this.

Very well.

“I know that Marek is easy to find, everyone goes to his shows, so I know that isn’t what you’re looking for. Instead, you’re looking for a way to get to him, to find him alone, to carry out whatever plan you think will actually work to stop him from doing what he does. That isn’t an easy task, but I can give you the information back that I destroyed.”

Mex’s eyes flash. “We’ve already got what we need, we’re not so fuckin’ stupid. You might have destroyed it, but you sure as shit didn’t stop us findin’ out what we wanted. I need more than that, and I need it right fuckin’ now.”

Biker needs to take a fucking chill pill.
