Finally, Eleazar left the room, and Andrew dropped onto the pillows, pressing a hand to his stomach. The nausea had finally eased, but it was replaced by hunger pains. More than likely it was because he’d thrown up twice and now his stomach was empty.

As Andrew lay there, he thought about Zach. “I have the cavalry looking for you,” he whispered to the room. “We’re going to find you, and I hope Eleazar kills Chainsaw for this.”

Andrew wasn’t normally a violent man, but Chainsaw was a piece of shit, and since he’d hurt Zach, he deserved whatever happened to him.

“Sir?” Sonny turned when he heard Eleazar call his name. He hadn’t interacted with him since the night he’d been hired, and honestly, the coven leader intimidated the hell out of him.

“Andrew wishes for you to prepare him a meal.”

After Eleazar told him what Andrew wanted, Sonny stopped him before he walked away. There was a niggling in his gut, and he wanted to know if it were even possible.

“Mr. Bancroft, may I ask you something?”

The way the vampire looked at him made Sonny want to cringe, but he forced himself not to. He’d been told by Amon to never show weakness in front of the coven, to always look confident.

“You may,” Eleazar said.

“I was just wondering…” Sonny wasn’t even sure how to phrase his question. “Well, if Andrew were a woman, I would say he was exhibiting signs of pregnancy. I know that sounds ridiculous, but the vomiting, his stomach settling with crackers, and his request for such a heavy meal…” Sonny shrugged then looked away. “I’m sorry. I know that sounds silly. Andrew is a guy, and that’s not possible.” He looked back up at Eleazar. “Maybe have the doctor look him over. It’s probably a stomach bug.”

Eleazar stood there motionless, staring at Sonny but seeing right through him. It was as if a switch had been turned off and all movement had ceased. Sonny felt as if he had to fill the quiet void.

“I’ve grown to care about Andrew, and I want to make sure he’s okay.”

Andrew was a delight to be around, helping Sonny with his chores when the guy didn’t have to, asking a ton of questions about cooking, and he was witty and charming. Sonny also felt like Andrew was his ally in a house filled with vampires.

At first, Sonny didn’t mind letting the vampires feed from him. It was from the wrist, and they never took too much. But since Andrew had arrived, no one had asked. Sonny had a sneaking suspicion that was because of Amon, the handsome vampire who had been assigned to watch over him.

And Sonny would have turned them down anyway. Now that he was clean, he wanted to kick the vampire feeding habit, too. Having a vampire feed from you was a high itself, and Sonny knew that if he was ever going to return to his old self—before the drugs and his ex-boyfriend—he needed to get high off of life, instead.

Eleazar pulled out his phone and quickly walked away, leaving Sonny there in the hallway. Maybe he shouldn’t have said anything. It had been a stupid idea, and Eleazar probably thought he was an idiot for even suggesting such a thing.

Sonny knew the signs. He had three sisters who’d had multiple pregnancies, and Andrew was acting like they had when they were knocked up. Could it be possible? Since they were talking about vampires, Sonny couldn’t be sure.

With a shrug, he headed to the kitchen to prepare Andrew’s meal.

Chapter Eight

Andrew had been dozing in Eleazar’s bed after that heavy meal when something made him stir. He opened his eyes just as a hand clamped over his mouth and a steel grip yanked him from the bed. Andrew struggled to get free, but whoever had him yanked him toward the window and it was opened.

His heart nearly gave out when he was forced through the window and toward the back of the estate.

“You think you’re so witty,” a deep, gruff voice said close to his ear. “I’ll show you who’s having the last laugh.”

Wait. Andrew recognized that voice.

Maximus.

It was as if the shadows in the darkness moved, and then three men appeared. Andrew thought he was saved, that Eleazar’s coven members wouldn’t stand for what Maximus was doing, but they just followed as Maximus dragged Andrew toward a wooden area.

Maximus pushed Andrew back so he collided into someone. The person said something in a language Andrew couldn’t understand. He feared for his life as he blinked into the darkness.

Suddenly the person in front of him stepped forward.

“Chainsaw.” Maximus’s voice had an edge to it but it held no surprise.

Andrew spotted a face he hadn’t seen since he’d knocked aside in the stairwell when he’d gone after Zach, and it was clear that Maximus had been expecting him.
