“This has to do with me,” Andrew argued. “Why can’t I come with you?”

“It is full dark and not safe for you out on the street,” Eleazar explained. “We talked about this.”

They’d had a lengthy conversation this morning before they’d fallen asleep. He’d warned his mate of his enemies and how not being seen was the wisest action. Eleazar shouldn’t have brought Andrew along with him for this meeting, but that pleading look had swayed him.

Andrew sat back and crossed his arms. Then he pressed a hand to his mouth. Eleazar watched as Andrew slung the back door open and vomited. “Are you all right?”

“Sure,” Andrew said with a groan. “I just tossed my dinner everywhere, but I’m peachy.”

He pulled the door shut and leaned back against the seat. “Go ahead. I’m not arguing. I think I’ll just sit here and pray the car stops spinning.”

Eleazar wasn’t used to sick humans. Felix had tended to himself when he was ill, and so had Eleazar’s previous servants. He wasn’t sure what to do. Maybe a call to Dr. Caldart was in order. “I’ll be right back.”

Andrew simply nodded before Eleazar got out and spotted Rayne coming toward him, three of his pack members following behind him. “Let’s make this quick,” Rayne said.

Eleazar pulled the bandana from his pocket and handed it over. Rayne sniffed it then curled his lip. “It has vampire stench on it.”

“Tell me you can’t differentiate the scents.” He wasn’t in the mood for Rayne’s bullshit. Andrew was sick, and Eleazar wanted to take him home. They would just have to go to the movies another night.

His mate would be disappointed, but his health was more important to Eleazar. Besides, Eleazar knew that Andrew was just using the movies as a distraction so he wouldn’t think of Zach.

“Yeah, I can pick up the human scent.” Rayne sniffed it again before he handed it off to Beast.

“Then we are done here.” Eleazar turned and headed back to his car. When he slipped into the backseat, Andrew looked pale.

“Take us home, Sirius.”

“What? No,” Andrew said. “What happened to going to the movies. I got my mouth set on popcorn and nachos.”

“You’re ill.” Eleazar slid a knuckle down Andrew’s cheek.

“I swear I’m fine,” Andrew argued. “Something I ate didn’t agree with me. I tossed my cookies, but now I’m okay.”

Eleazar had promised not to invade Andrew’s mind, and now he wished he hadn’t made that promise. He needed to know that his mate was okay and not just saying that to attend a movie.

With a sigh, Eleazar instructed his driver to take them to the theater. He had more important things he needed to do, but a few hours at the movies wouldn’t hurt.

Eleazar soon realized that he despised the smell of popcorn. Andrew had purchased a large bucket of the stuff, along with candy and a soda. His arms were full as they made their way into the theater.

The place was dimly lit, enough so that the lighting didn’t irritate Eleazar’s eyes. Theater 3 had a musty odor to it, but Andrew didn’t seem to notice as they sat in the back row.

“Let’s see if this horror film can impress me,” Eleazar said. He’d lived enough horror in his life and doubted the movie would scare him. There were a lot scarier things in Ridgeway than zombies pathetically chasing clumsy humans.

But it wasn’t the movie that grabbed Eleazar’s attention. It was the way Andrew was staring at the screen, a look of fear in his eyes as he watched a zombie tackle some guy, biting into his flesh.

“That’s one of my greatest fears,” Andrew whispered, as if the zombies would hear him and come after him.

“Beating bitten?”

“No.” Andrew looked up at him. “Zombies…and clowns. Clowns scare the crap out of me.”

Eleazar suppressed his chuckle. “You do realize that zombies aren’t real.”

“That doesn’t stop them from being frightening.” Andrew shoveled a handful of popcorn into his mouth. When he swallowed, he looked back up at Eleazar. “Can you eat food?”

“I can, but it tastes like dust to me.” The last time Eleazar had tried, he’d taken a bite of a delicious-looking cheesecake. He’d vomited it up five minutes later. “The only thing that truly sustains me is blood.”

Andrew held up a piece of popcorn. “Try it.”
