I come with my face pressed to her throat, moaning her name. She gasps, then turns to kiss me. “We can try blowjobs next week.”
“Fuck, I love you.” I kiss her again. I clean myself up with the towel and have her help me into boxers and sweatpants. I hold her hips in front of me, rubbing up her thighs. Spreading my legs, I pull her closer and kiss across her belly. “I do, Sofia. I love you.”
She pets my hair and wraps her arms around my neck. “Once you’re all healed up, I expect a full weekend of your attention.”
“I’ll put it in my calendar.”
“So cheeky.”
I squeeze her ass, and she giggles. “What do you want for dinner, cave man?”
“Other than you? Pizza.”
She leans down to kiss me again, and just like that, everything is right in the world.
Chapter 29
Sofia
The weeks pass by, and work starts picking up again as we prepare for the gala. There’s so much on my plate, it’s hard to tell one day from the next. I’ve been tempted to give up my teaching time to be able to take better care of Jasper.
Not that he really wants it. He’s getting more independent by the day, pushing his luck in a lot of ways, but the doctors are thrilled by how quickly he’s healing.
I glance up from my laptop as Carissa walks by, her eyes buried in her phone. She’s been a little distant since I got back. I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to her about… everything. There’s an overdue conversation that needs to happen, well, right now. I can blame work and Jasper’s recuperation for not having the time to talk, sure, but I know it’s more than that. I feel guilty, especially since I’m so happy with Jasper. Taking a deep breath, I approach her desk. She sees me coming and arranges a smile.
“Hey, you,” she says, as I take the seat in front of her desk.
“Do you want to go out this Friday?” I ask.
She blinks at me. “Uh … out? Like … out, out?”
“Like going to a bar with music that’s a little too loud. We have some catching up to do, and I’d really like to talk.”
She sighs and looks down at her desk. “I don’t know, Sofia. I kind of have a thing.”
“Ok… how about Saturday?”
Another hesitation, and I wait for her to tell me I stole her man, that we can’t be friends, that we’re done. But she reaches over and rubs my hand. “Don’t give me that look, Sofia. I still love you. That hasn’t changed.”
I put my free hand over hers. “I’m so sorry for how Jasper and I got together. I’m sorry about being distant since I’ve been back. I’m sorry for hiding behind work and every other excuse.”
“I mean, yeah, it was kind of a bitch move to sleep with the guy I liked, but we weren’t dating. I’m happier now anyway. How is Jasper?”
“Annoyingly determined to break doctor’s rules.” I roll my eyes. “How are you? How have you been?”
“I’ve been okay. I’m seeing someone, and things seem to be going well, but we don’t really have a label which is … new.”
“Very new for you,” I agree.
“Just like you going home on time?” She teases.
I roll my eyes. “I take plenty home, don’t worry about that.”
“You need a work-life balance, Sofia. I keep telling you that.”
“I know. And I plan to, once this gala is over.”
“I’m going to hold you to that. But I’m really tied up this weekend, so I can’t hang out. How about tonight, though? You can bring Jasper if you want.”
