Mason raises his hand like he’d like to take me up on that offer. Juliette glares at him and his hand goes down immediately.

“You’d be rubbish in a fight,” I say to the scowling woman.

“Don’t underestimate me, Xander,” she retorts.

“I would never,” I assure her, wanting to pull her into my arms and kiss her until we’re both breathless but we can't do that in front of the kids.

Despite my warning, Mason and Madison drift toward the barbell and I stifle a groan before heading over to them.

“If you’re so insistent on lifting something, how about you try this, Ironman?” I ask, handing him a dumbbell.

He accepts it from me with a grin and lifts it up a few times before he drops it to the ground. I notice he’s sweating a little and move closer, leaning down in front of him.

“You okay?” I ask my son in concern.

He nods but my eyes narrow. I shift his brown hair from his forehead and feel his temperature.

“You’re a little too warm, Mase. You don’t feel good?”

“I feel fine,” he insists.

“He said he had a headache earlier,” Madison mentions and he glares at his twin.

“Do you want to go home?” I ask worriedly but he shakes his head.

“I’m fine, Dad. Just a little tired is all.”

I want to argue but I decide to just wait and see if his condition worsens. He grabs the dumbbell again and goes back to lifting it, which eases my worries a little. I notice Juliette isn’t anywhere near us and I catch sight of her at the end of the gym, her expression troubled.

“Are you going to tell me what’s up with you?” I ask when I reach her side.

She shakes her head. “I’m fine, Xander.”

I huff. “You all keep saying you’re fine. If something’s wrong, just spit it out. It’s not that hard.”

“Whoa, chill out, Bear.” Juliette laughs. “I really am okay. But I need to leave.”

“Leave where?”

“I was going to get something from the store. Can I take your car?”

“You don’t need to, just ask Jack to get whatever it is you need,” I tell her easily.

Our bodyguard’s waiting for us in another car he drove the kids here in.

Something flickers in Juliette’s eyes for a minute before she shakes her head. “I can’t ask Jack to get me tampons,” she says.

“Sure you can,” I drawl.

“No. I’ll go myself. You and the kids can leave and I’ll meet you at home. Okay?” she asks.

I sigh before nodding. She really is too stubborn for her own good. Once she sets her mind on something, there’s no convincing her otherwise. Her eyes roam the gym for a minute before she quickly reaches over to kiss me on the cheek.

“See you later.”

My gaze lingers on her ass for a second as I watch her walk away. And for just one second, it hits me that I might just be falling in love with her.
