Always causing trouble without meaning to. But she’s worth it. I’ll be happy to clean up any mess she makes for the rest of my life. I’m just grateful the pack she chose wants me too. She chose them, and they chose me with her.
The Omega House hasn’t reached out to me once. Hasn’t even tried to contact me after the Choosing Day. With Pack Henley now retired and with Storm, I feel like I’m out of hot water.
Only, with Veronica gunning for Pack Bentley, it’s only a matter of time until she works out how they cheated and take Harley from them. They haven’t told her everything. Dash has been keeping me up to date with all that’s going on. I hate that I’m stuck here, that I can’t be with her.
She has no idea it was her scent that drove those alphas to attack him. She believes it was because they recognized him from TV. The cops aren’t doing shit...alpha assholes. They’re biased when it comes to attacks on betas. That’s why the stats on alpha attacks are so low. Pretty easy when you never register the attacks to begin with. The beta cops on the force don’t stand a chance against the alphas in charge. It’s a flawed system, only designed to help alphas and the elite.
But now that they’re on the cops’ radar... what if some dirty cops take advantage of knowing Harley is there? That’s what has me on edge and pacing.
My phone buzzes with a text.
Dash: We found her father. We’ve reached out and are waiting for him to reply.
I let out a deep breath. Thank god. At least one bit of good news. I just hope he believes them and reaches back out to them. She missed her father a lot. Her brother too. And I hope they can be reunited.
Me: Great news. Fingers crossed you hear from them. How’s my girl today?
Dash: Good. She’s been in the nest all day. We had the mattress delivered, but she doesn’t like it. The heat is close. Jax thinks tomorrow. Ace is working on finding a new place to stay.
That’s what Ace has been busy working on. Teddy and the guys here have been pooling all the funds they can to help the guys find a place. They don’t have a lot. The job market for non-elites here is poor. But there’s only a few places alphas can go. There are too many beta-only towns, and anywhere that accepts alphas doesn’t have job openings. So, it’s impossible for anyone to get off the poverty line.
That’s how the elite want it to be. They don’t want the common alphas getting any ideas. It’s a mistake, one of many. They’ve pushed them all right over the edge, and the uprising is in full swing. I’ve heard they’ve surrounded the Omega House. I worry for the omegas there, and Frankie. He’s a good guy. I just hope nothing happens to him.
Not that they stream that on the news anymore. God, no, there’s no longer anything to do with the uprising. I think they’ve clued into the fact that coverage about it is just helping the uprising rather than condemning it.
What did they think? The rest of the betas and beta-born alphas are going to sit here and believe life is fair? Hell, no. This is the time to swing things in the right direction. Inclusivity for all.
No class. No rules. No designations.
Just one people. All free to make our own choices.
My phone buzzes again, and I glance down at the message. It’s from Ace. I quickly open it.
Ace: Pack your bag. We’ll get you in twenty.

It doesn’t take long for me to pack. I haven’t unpacked since I got here. I never intended to stay long. I’m waiting by the front door as Maggie approaches, giving me a warm smile. She’s so sweet and has treated me as if I was her own son.
I nod at her and Nick. “Thank you for opening your house up to me.”
“It was so lovely having you here, Gage. Thank you so much for what you have done for our son. If it wasn’t for you, Harley would have never known what to write on that ticket. She wouldn’t have chosen Knight, and he would have been lost forever.” Maggie comes closer but stops herself from touching me.
I want to hug her goodbye, but I will be with Harley soon and don’t want to have her scent on me when Harley is so close to her heat.
Nick holds his hand out to me, and I take it. “Thank you, Gage. You saved our boy, and we can never repay you.”
I shake it and then my head. “No, your son saved me. I’m so glad I was in that bar at the right time. If I wasn’t drowning my sorrows, this never would have happened. So, thank you. Now I have a pack and the girl I love.”
He nods once as I turn to the front door, where I hear a car pull up. I feel nervous and excited to see her again, especially outside those walls, where we can touch freely.
“My ride’s here. I better not keep them waiting.” I’ve been waiting to see her for what feels like forever but has only been ten days. I open the front door and race down the steps with my bag. Ace exits the driver's door of the large black Escalade and smiles at me. He reaches out for my hand, and I shake it, a little too excited to see her.
“Thank fuck you’re here. We need more hands on deck. Her heat has hit, and it's taking everything in me to get us out of here and to the safe house.”
I smell my girl from the car. Her scent is so powerful, it almost brings me to my knees. How is Ace standing there and not trying to bury his cock in her?
I glance in and see Jax is taking care of her needs right there in the back seat. Thank god they drive an Escalade. Plenty of room to seat us all and eat Harley out.
