He shrugged. “Whatever the hell you want. I’m sure a man like you has needs.”

“She’s fucking pregnant, Caleb!”

Caleb seemed as bored as if Hayden had just suggested he watch paint dry. “If you don’t like her, just keep her with the others.”

For the first time since we’d left the house, I couldn’t keep my words inside. “The others?”

But Caleb had already lost interest, wandering away through the quiet house and leaving me alone with the other man.

Hayden watched him go and then turned to me with a sigh. “Are you okay?”

I shook my head. “Please let me go.”

“I really fucking wish I could. Come on.”

He pointed toward the hallway, but he let me walk of my own accord. At the end, he opened the door.

Four other women slept on mattresses on the floor.

One lifter her head sleepily and blinked an eye. “Chaos? What’s going on?”

Through gritted teeth, Hayden, or Chaos as this woman seemed to be calling him, leaned on the doorway. “Caleb just dropped her off. Take care of her, okay? She’s pregnant.”

He closed the door behind me.

Leaving me alone with ‘the others.’

Rebel and Bliss stood in the foyer when we returned, anxious expressions firmly in place. Rebel’s big eyes flicked from Fang to Vaughn to me.

“Well?” she asked, a hint of breathlessness in her voice. “Did you find her?”

The others didn’t answer. The mood had been so low in the car that I hadn’t even suggested karaoke for fear someone might stab me since they hadn’t gotten to take their frustrations out on Caleb.

Nobody else seemed willing to answer, so I filled them in. “The place was empty.”

Rebel’s face fell. “You searched the basement? There are multiple rooms…”

“We searched them,” I assured her. “There was no sign of a woman being held there.”

“No sign of Caleb either,” Scythe complained with a toddler-like pout. “Worst killing expedition ever!”

We all glanced over at him.

“What? So I’m dramatic.” He flopped down on the couch, only further proving his point.

The rest of us ignored him.

“So what now?” Rebel asked. “That girl is still out there somewhere. He has her.”

Fang cleared his throat. “We’ll keep searching. He can’t hide forever.”

“But no more tonight,” I added on. “None of us have slept, and we have no idea where he is.”

Rebel buried her face in her hands. “This is all my fault. I should have told you all straightaway. I shouldn’t have let him take me in the first place.”
