In the evening, Logan returned to the room with dinner—medium sized burgers with chicken wings, green salad and fries. He sat on the couch, and I watched him from the bed, my stomach growling at the sight of the food. "Are you going to eat or are you too mad that Haley made it to be hungry?" he jeered, darting his eyes in my direction as he picked up a burger and took his first bite.
The question made me cringe but I couldn't be hungry and jealous at the same time—it was either one or the other and hunger had the upper hand in this situation. I got to my feet, and joined him on the couch, grabbing the other burger from the plate, and taking a huge bite.
"Hmm…this is really good," I mumbled to myself, taking another bite.
"Yeah, it is. She's a good cook," he added, and I could tell that he was taunting me.
I didn't say anything. I just ate my dinner, ignoring the echo of his comment in my head. So what if she was a good cook?
"But, she's not you, nobody else can be. Honestly, I can't think of any reason why you should be jealous. She's nothing compared to you," Logan said out of the blue.
"What?" I mumbled.
Chapter Twenty-Four
Logan
It rained cats and dogs all through the night till the following morning. I was thankful for the rain because it gave me the opportunity to have Harper in my arms—our bodies pressed together for warmth against the relentless cold.
Around seven in the morning, the rain finally stopped. I was awake, running my fingers through her hair and resisting the urge to kiss her and do all the things imaginable. Damn! It was hard.
Lying next to her, it was impossible to get any sleep with the tension between my thighs—I had barely slept the entire night, but I didn't mind. Being around Harper and having her this close to me was relaxing enough. I didn't mind losing sleep. Fuck- I was willing to lose sleep for the rest of my life as long as it meant having her with me like this. I wouldn't even mind if the storm lasted months or years. Having Harper with me in this chaos was all I needed.
A loud knock at the door reverberated through the room, and my eyes shot to the door, then back at Harper—she was still fast asleep. I grumbled inwardly, reluctantly slipping my arm beneath her body slowly. I stared at her the whole time, ensuring I didn't wake her. I pulled the sheet, wrapping it around her properly as I climbed out of bed. I grabbed my T-shirt on the way to answer the door and took one look at it halfway to the door—It looked in need of dry cleaning.
I sighed. If we were going to be here for the next few days I really needed to get a change of clothes and other stuff very soon. Without another available option, I threw on the T-shirt and slipped into my pants before answering the door. I twisted the key in the lock and squeezed the doorknob.
The door opened, and Haley came into view, looking too dolled up so early in the day. She smiled broadly when our gaze met before mumbling a cheerful "Good morning," twinkling her eyes at me.
"Morning," I replied dryly, stepping outside the room and closing the door behind me. "What's up? Do you need anything?" I asked, a little impatient and wanting to return to Harper quickly.
"No. The mechanic is here with your car. He's asking for you," she informed. "I came to tell you that."
"Oh! Thanks. Wow- he said it would take another day to fix," I muttered mostly to myself.
"You're welcome. Anyways, I have to make breakfast. Is there anything in particular that you'd like me to make for you?" She asked.
"Oh! No. I'll just go with the menu," I replied.
"Okay, if you say so," she muttered, sounding slightly disappointed before leaving.
I returned inside and put on my sneakers before I left to meet the mechanic. I stepped outside the motel and spotted the mechanic standing far off in the parking lot with my car beside him, and I hurried to him. He returned the keys, and I did a thorough check to make sure the car was in good shape, taking it for a brief test drive before I paid him.
"Done?" Haley asked the minute I walked through the door, and I could tell she had been waiting for me, but what did I care? I nodded, moving over to the counter. "That's good," she whispered.
"Hey, is there a store around? I need to get some supplies."
"Oh! Yeah. There's one close by, just a few blocks down. I can take you there if you want," she offered casually.
"Nah. I wouldn't want to be a bother. You can just give me the directions, and I'll find it myself."
"Oh! Come on. It's no bother at all. I'd love to," she insisted, tucking her hair behind her ear and cocking her head to the side.
"Thanks, but I'd have to decline," I replied adamantly. I had plans of my own, and the only company I wanted with me was Harper. "I appreciate the offer, though," I added and left the front desk.
I returned to the room to see if Harper had awakened so I could convince her to come with me to the store. As the door swung open, my jaw dropped at the breathtaking sight before me. Harper stood there, clad in nothing but a delicate bra and panties, with a towel gracefully draped around her hair. My heart skipped a beat.
At that moment, time seemed to stand still as our eyes locked, and my eyes slowly went down her slender figure, drinking every inch of her body. My heart was racing, my dick aching with raw need for her. The air between us crackled with a mix of desire and a hint of embarrassment. I quickly averted my gaze, feeling a rush of heat spreading across my cheeks.
