Chapter Twelve

Logan

The morning rolled in, and I awoke to the thought of Harper. No surprise there. I had fallen asleep last night thinking of her. I heard the knock at the door and slid out of bed to answer it.

"Good morning," Carl greeted warmly with a huge grin plastered on his face.

"Morning," I responded dryly, sensing the impending question.

"So? How did it go with—" I didn't even let him finish.

"Nothing yet. She said she would get back to me this morning, but I haven't heard anything from her yet," I said, cutting him off.

"Do you think she will agree?" Carl asked, and I shrugged.

"I can't say for sure, but I think she might."

Carl nodded. "That sounds hopeful. I'll keep my fingers crossed."

Another knock came at the door, and Carl's face lit up. He looked at me. "That has to be her," he grinned. "I bet she's here to give you her answer."

"I guess so," I muttered and went to answer the door. The door swung open, and as expected Harper stood at the door still in her nightdress with a coat on. Her hair was tied in a messy bun, and a pair of cozy slippers on her feet. My eyes scanned through her dress until I caught sight of her protruding nipples straining against the night dress. Harper self-consciously wrapped the coat around herself tightly, hindering my view.

"Good morning," she greeted.

"Morning," I mumbled, and we both stood there awkwardly for a minute without saying anything. "Have you finally decided on what we talked about last night?" I asked.

"Oh! Yes. I uhm…I thought about what you said…your suggestion rather, and my answer is yes. I'll do it. I'll play along with the rumor for now."

Relief washed over me. I was glad she hadn't insisted on clearing the rumor. "I'm glad to hear that. It's a reasonable decision."

Harper glared. "Yeah, whatever," she muttered and turned to leave.

"Hold on, Harper," I called, stopping her halfway. "You and I should eat out this morning. What do you say?"

She turned to me. "It sounds like a good idea."

"Good. I'll see you in an hour."

Harper nodded and retreated into her room, and I did the same.

"Looks like it's going to work out after all. Harper agreed to play along with it," I declared as I entered the room.

Carl smiled elaborately. "I told you she would. I just knew it," he said, feeling proud.

I rolled my eyes.

"Anyways, you guys should definitely do something together today."

"I know. I already asked her to have breakfast with me," I replied.

"That's a good start."

"I think so. You should leave. I have to get ready."

"Sure. I'll see you later," Carl said and left the room.

An hour later, I stood outside Harper's door, dressed and ready for breakfast. I knocked, and after a brief pause, the door creaked open.
