“What do you do?” Erica asked. “My mother has never worked so she can’t understand that our lives don’t revolve around significant others.”

“Our lives shouldn’t revolve around our work either,” Harmony said. “That is your problem now.”

“It’s not easy,” Erica said. “I’m trying.”

“You asked Daisy a question,” Theo said, looking up from his laptop. “Let her answer or you two can talk about your lives if you want.”

“He told you,” Harmony said to Erica.

Daisy waited to see if they were going to keep talking, but they didn’t. They looked at her.

“I’m a jeweler. I work at Blossoms.”

“Blossoms that has all the lotions and candles and body stuff?” Erica asked.

“And accessories and jewelry,” Harmony said. “Not that Erica wears anything other than solid neutral colors daily so she wouldn’t get it.”

“Girls,” Theo said.

Both of them stopped and laughed. She bet they spent more time busting on each other, but there was love there too.

She put the two pieces of French toast on a plate and pushed it in front of Erica. “Would you like some more, Harmony? There are four more pieces of bread and we know that two have to be for Theo so he doesn’t get cranky.”

There was a room full of laughter there. Even Theo laughed and she couldn’t believe how these siblings got along and how one minute they were laughing and the next they were being sarcastic with each other.

“No, thank you,” Harmony said. “We’ll leave it for a snack or for Theo since he’s indulging us now.”

Theo had gone back to typing into his laptop.

“Yes, that Blossoms. I’ve worked there for a little over two years now. Heather is a scientist and she does all the formulas for the herbal-type products. We were hired a few months apart and Heather moved into Poppy Bloom-McGill’s old condo to rent and then I was hired and couldn’t find a place and we ended up roommates. It’s been great. I’m an only child and I feel like I finally found a sister.”

“Where are you from?” Harmony asked.

“A small town in upstate New York. Along the Hudson River. It’s just me and my mother. It’s always only been the two of us. When I saw the job opening for Blossoms I applied and haven’t looked back. Best day of my life was getting that job.”

“Not meeting me?” Theo asked, looking up from his computer.

“Well,” she said. “I couldn’t have met you if I didn’t take the job so I guess I have to say that is best because it led to us.”

“The second best, right?” Harmony asked.

“The second best,” she agreed.

“You said you are trying to loosen our brother up,” Erica said. “What have you done to accomplish that? I do see a difference. He’s more laid back. I noticed it when we were here two months ago too. Were you dating then?”

“We’d just started to date then,” she said. “No reason to let people know. As I said, my job is busy due to the time of year more than anything.”

“That is why I’m so busy,” Harmony said. “A lot of my clients are gearing up for the holiday season.”

“Exactly,” she said. “All of our wholesale orders are out the door and in stores. No worries there. But we are getting a ton of online orders now. Most pieces are done at the manufacturing plant and assembled there. There is a higher end line and those are made by Rose Bloom-Klein and me.”

“I’ve seen some of them,” Harmony said. “I went shopping last week and one of the department stores had the pieces displayed.”

“Lily would love to hear that,” she said. “I’ll make sure to tell her. We get a lot of custom online pieces too and those Rose and I also do. I work in the shop as needed or when someone comes in. The main reason I’m so busy is Rose had a baby a few weeks ago. She’ll start back doing some things from home after Thanksgiving, but until then it’s all on me.”

It felt good for her to say that too.

She wasn’t stressed, but it was more rewarding to know she was holding down the fort and doing such a great job with it.
