Between that and Rose being pulled out of work, the family was on baby watch.

That just meant more work for her or she was bringing work to Rose who insisted on doing it at home on the couch with her feet up. Since she’d spent a few hours with Rose last week, she’d been happy to report that Rose was following the doctor’s orders.

“I know,” she said. “I’m hoping it slows down, but I don’t see that happening. Not with Rose out and she hasn’t even had the baby yet.”

They got inside and found their seats. A server came over to their table and asked if they wanted a drink. She got wine and him a beer. They’d had a late dinner they just came from, close to the casino so she didn’t worry about anyone seeing her in town. Not that thirty minutes away was that far, but it minimized the risk factor.

“You seem to like being busy though,” he said.

“I do. It makes time go by faster. And I love the custom pieces that I get to do while she is out if someone doesn’t want to wait. I also get a commission on custom pieces so that’s even better.”

Custom pieces purchased online didn’t work that way. Not if it was a standard piece and just a charm, gemstone or chain color changed. But if someone emailed and was consulted on a custom piece, that was different.

“I didn’t know that,” he said.

“Yeah. Twenty percent, which is nice. I mean they don’t have to do that, but they do. If I take the order, I get it. So the big bridal party that I did, that was a great bonus to get.”

“Good for you,” he said.

“You don’t get anything like that, do you? Like a bonus for the number of surgeries you do?”

Daisy was laughing when she said it. It seemed he was crazy busy doing surgeries and he said this time of year it happened with people electing to wait until after the summer but before the holidays.

“It doesn’t work that way,” he said. “It’d be great if it did. Private practices do give bonuses for money brought in, but not always hospitals.”

“Not always but some?” she asked.

“It happens,” he said.

“Which just proves that you do it because you love it, not because you want some prize at the end of the day.”

He laughed. “My prize is helping people. That is good enough for me.”

“You’re such a great guy,” she said. “I’m not sure how I got so lucky that you even noticed me.”

He frowned at her, then his eyes roamed over her sitting in the chair. From her eyes to her breasts that she tried to push up some with a special bra, down to the tips of her red pumps.

“You’re a very noticeable woman,” he said. “You caught my eye when you weren’t trying. I can say though, that I like you went a little out of the box today.”

She wasn’t sure what that comment meant but needed to find out.

Maybe he didn’t like all her bold colors. Or maybe it was her sexy shoes and cleavage flashing around the long chains she had.

“What is different? The black romper.”

“Huh? Nope. Though it’s toned down for you, I don’t see that. I see smaller amounts of color rather than a lot. I find I like the color you’ve got. Or what you wear. There is always a brightness to you, but even wearing black it’s coming through.”

“Then what is out of the box?” she asked. She wasn’t sure where this was going. Part of her wanted to know if he didn’t like that she stood out so much with her clothing, but it sounded like he was good with it.

“The shoes,” he said when he leaned in. “I know you’re on your feet a lot. That isn’t something that is comfortable. As a doctor I know what those can do to the bones in your feet too. But damn, they are doing something else for me right now.”

“That’s it?” she said, laughing. “The shoes did it?”

“Oh yeah,” he said. “Now all I can think about is you just having them on and nothing else.”

She winked at him. “I might have that thought in my mind through this show. Now I almost want to leave, but I surprised you with these tickets and I heard this was a great tour.”

It was a last minute thing she decided when they made the date.
