Poppy looked as if she wasn’t buying this. “I’ll let you get away with that for now, but what I know of you, is if you weren’t that interested, you wouldn’t have slept with him and you did. And you’re humming and you’re smiling and that means there is more to it.”
“You’re pretty smart,” she said.
“I know I am. No one ever gives me enough credit.”
“You get it,” she said.
Daisy moved away from her desk and stood up to walk over and get the printed list of orders that she’d been doing when Poppy came in. She’d get started on that first like she always did and then would go back to the bridal collection and get that done soon. Rose was almost done with the bride’s necklace and it was best to get that order out the door.
“You are walking funny,” Poppy said.
She figured she was.
“Why are you walking funny?” She turned her head to see Ivy standing in the doorway. Just great, now she’d have two people she had to lie to.
“Daisy and I were just talking about the gym in the condo,” Poppy said. “I’ve had days that killed me there too.”
She turned to look at Poppy’s straight face. Damn, that girl was good. “Are you looking for me or Poppy?” she asked Ivy. This way she could drop the conversation and get back to work.
“I was looking for Rose, but I see she’s not here yet,” Ivy said. “Lily talked to her this morning so I’m sure she’ll be in.”
“She’s probably on the way,” Poppy said. “She might have had to make a pit stop in the bathroom to empty out her breakfast.”
“I heard that,” Rose said, walking into the room.
The more the merrier now. The attention would be pulled from her. “Was it true?” Poppy asked.
“Yep,” Rose said. “I’m not so sure how I got to be this lucky to have the pregnancy that sucks.”
“My mother said she went through the same thing,” Daisy said.
Which wasn’t easy since her mother was trying to hide the pregnancy at school.
“It bites,” Rose said. “For anyone. Sorry your mom went through it. Is there a party going on in here?”
“I was talking to Daisy since we were the first ones here. You know me,” Poppy said. “Got to get my good mornings in.”
Poppy was doing well at flinging the bull this morning. Daisy smiled and nodded her head.
“I was looking for you,” Ivy said. “I thought you were here, but you are now. It’s about the order you wanted me to place. There are some things not in stock and I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to look elsewhere or get substitutes.”
“Give me a few minutes to get situated,” Rose said. “Daisy, if you aren’t busy just yet, why don’t we all go upstairs? This way when I’m out, you and Ivy can work on these issues too.”
“I’m so proud of you,” Poppy said. “You’re handing over the reins.”
“Not handing them over,” Daisy said. “Just getting some assistance. We want Rose to be able to relax while she’s out with the baby and not be bothered by these things. I’m glad to help and be included.”
Ivy was an assistant for all three sisters, taking things off their shoulders now, but there was stuff she couldn’t do or didn’t want to figure out on her own.
“I’d be lost without you, Daisy,” Rose said.
Poppy pretended to knuckle a tear away. “Being pregnant has softened you up.”
“Yeah, right,” Rose said. “Bite me, Poppy.”
They all laughed, as it was typical of the two sisters' interaction.
“I’ll leave that to Thomas,” Poppy said. “Not that I think he’s getting much action now.”
