Page 61 of Lexi Lets Go

Just like that she was gone as quickly as she came. She had said it last year and she would say it again, she was a force of nature. It was best to just go with her. And right now, Lexi was more than happy to be in the Poppy storm. The Liam one was a bit scarier.

She closed her eyes, trying to find the courage to call him, but just at that moment her phone started buzzing in her hand. The screen read incoming call Liam.

"Hello," she answered weakly.

"Are you okay?" he said quickly.

"I'm fine--"

"I'm so fucking sorry, Lexi. I was scared of this. I'm not sure why I thought we could do it differently, I should’ve known. Did you read it?"

"Just the headline, I figured I should stop there."

"That's probably a good call. It was all shit. All of it. Are you sure you're okay?”

"I'm fine, are you okay?"

"I'm pissed. I want to find whoever leaked that picture and fire them. I want to sue the tabloids for harassment. I want to plead with all the people engaging with this trash online to stop and realize we are all fucking people not just fodder for their amusement."

She’d never heard him like this before. He was so angry, and he had every right to be. Lexi wasn’t ready for this to be over, but it was his career and they had only known each other for two weeks. The connection had been amazing, but he’d been building something incredible for years. He said they could try for something else, but they had tried and what he was worried about had happened. Lexi didn't feel panic setting in, she felt her walls going up... and that was much worse.

"I'm sorry this all happened Liam. I know this is what you were afraid of, and here we are. You said only a week, so if that's all we have, that's okay. I will remember it fondly."

"It's not fucking okay, Lexi. Is this it for you? Are you done?" The pleading in his voice shocked her. "I wasn’t afraid of a fucking scandal. I was afraid of another person walking away from me because my life is too much. I get it if that's what you're doing, but please, give me a chance to fix this. I don't know how, but please don't walk away. Things are about to change for me in some pretty major ways. I can include you in that, we can figure out how this best works for us --"

"Liam, stop." The sound of his sniffle just about broke her heart. "I don't want it to be the end. I just thought you might because of everything. I don't care what people say about me. I only knew because Poppy texted to check up on me. I can easily stay offline until this all blows over. I just don’t want to be a burden on your career."

"Oh, thank god, Lexi. I can have a career and be with you. I made some big changes today and I still have another meeting tonight to make sure everything is good, I just wanted to check on you."

The relief in his voice was palpable, and she felt her own relief too. They were okay, and that's all that mattered.

"We're good. If you have time, call me when you are done tonight, if not I’ll see you tomorrow."

"I lo.... I can't wait to see you. I'll call you tonight if I can."

"Okay, don't worry about this though. I'm fine as long as you're fine."

"If I could kiss you right now I would, gorgeous."

"Right back atcha."

She hung up the phone and tossed it on her bed. Breathing a sigh of relief, she flopped onto her bed and the mountain of clothes. Tomorrow she would be seeing Liam in apparently borrowed clothes from her new friends. Her Lean Cuisine life had definitely made some changes in the past two weeks, and she was thrilled. She got up and started putting away her clothes, excited for what tomorrow held.

Chapter27

Liam

After he got off the phone with Lexi, the relief he felt was palpable. Knowing she wasn't going anywhere, even in the midst of a scandal, was the reassurance he needed.

After rummaging around in the fridge for food, Heinrich entered the kitchen.

"Mr. James, Mr. Diaz is here to see you."

"Perfect, bring him in."

Liam headed to the living room. Fame came with many perks and getting late appointments with a realtor was one of them.

Heinrich showed Mr. Diaz into the living room. He had on a nice crisp suit and his sleek black hair was flawless.
