As the light filled the room, Lexi stirred but didn't wake. She snuggled into his side, and he wrapped his arm around her. He would definitely be texting Heinrich to bring them breakfast in bed. He held her, gazing at her face. How was it even possible that someone he hadn't even known a week had become so special to him? There really was something magical at play here. Then he remembered Lexi had mentioned that woman who had read his tarot. She had talked about an unexpected love coming into his life and turning it upside down. She had also told him that he needed to be careful who he surrounded himself with, but those seemed pretty stereotypical things to say to a rock star who often found himself in the rumor mill.
Whatever made it happen didn’t matter. All that mattered to him right now was this woman in his bed. She was the force pulling him and driving him to take back control, and she didn't even know it.
As he watched her, her eyes blinked open. Her eyes were still cloudy with sleep, but her smile was clear, and it was for him.
"Good morning, beautiful," he said as he swept the hair away from her face and pressed a sweet kiss to her temple.
She yawned and stretched. "What time is it?"
"It's almost nine. I have breakfast coming soon.” Her fingers absentmindedly traced the sparrow on his chest. "Then we’ll get ready for the day, unless you thought better of it in your sleep and now want to take it all back.” He was joking, but there was a small part of him that believed she would come to her senses and decide she wanted no part of his life.
"Not even a little. In fact, quite the opposite.” The press of her breast into his side shot straight to his dick. He raised a knee to hide the erection that was about to start tenting the sheets.
"I had the strangest dream," she said with a yawn.
"Oh really? Now you have my attention."
"I can't tell you. You’ll think I'm some sort of stalker fan.” Her face turned into his chest, hiding her eyes from his gaze.
"Considering you can't even name three of my songs, I'm pretty sure I won't think that."
"Okay, but when you want to run away from me, just remember you asked for it. You also promised I could see your show tonight, so no going back on our deal."
"Deal. Now tell me about this dream. Bonus points if it's dirty.”
"Nope, not dirty. We were living in Mystic Falls at the Founder's Day celebration. We ran into Bridget, and she seemed to know all about us and said something cheeky about the bus breaking down. I got the distinct impression she set this all up. Anyway, that was about it.... feel free to run. I know you don't want to live in Mystic Falls with me."
"Who says I don't?" he said jokingly, but there was an undercurrent of truth that was unexpected. He did like the idea of living in Mystic Falls. He felt more at home there than he had here in the city, and the paparazzi likely wouldn’t venture to a town that small very often. The moment hung between them, neither of them speaking.
A gentle knock sounded at the door, breaking the silence. "Come in," Liam called out.
Heinrich entered with a cart full of plates. There was a big bowl of fruit and a basket of toast. "Thanks, Heinrich."
"Of course, sir. Will there be anything else? There is tea and coffee on the tray along with your smoothie, Mr. James. If you require anything else, I can get it for you."
Liam looked over at Lexi and raised his eyebrows waiting to see if she needed anything else.
"This looks amazing, thank you. Coffee is great."
Heinrich nodded and exited the room, softly shutting the door behind him.
"Breakfast in bed two days in a row. You really are spoiling me. Going back to cereal and coffee before I run out the door to work is going to be a rude awakening," Lexi said, giving another big stretch. Liam was tempted to say he would find a way to keep spoiling her, but he wasn't sure what things would look like after this weekend. Sure, she had agreed last night to see where this went, but surely that didn't mean it would change her day-to-day life that early. As much as he wanted to keep her right here next to him always, she had a life in Mystic Falls. He couldn’t keep her from that.
"Let's see what we have." He got out and lifted the lids. There was scrambled eggs, French toast, and an assortment of breakfast meats. "See anything you like?"
"Mmmm I'll take french toast and bacon." He handed her the plate of french toast and took the eggs for himself. "Just the eggs?" she asked.
"And don’t forget this fruity chalky concoction,” he said holding up the green smoothie. “On show night, I tend to eat lots of protein to keep my energy up."
"I'm really excited to see you perform." she said.
He was excited too. He hoped she would see his world and be able to see a place for herself in it. Having her by his side in all of this would make things considerably less lonely. He was now becoming aware of just how lonely he had been recently. Partly because of his own doing, but he was beginning to think it was also by design.
They finished up their breakfast and got ready for the car to come. He was nervous. Not for the show, he knew how to do that, but because she would be there. He needed to make sure she was comfortable and felt safe, but he also needed her to see a future with him. The need threatened to overtake him if he thought too much about it. So, he tried to let it go and mentally prepare for the show.
