“Uh huh.”
He shoves him. “She had her clothes on.”
His twin laughs. “Because your game is shit.”
“Oh fuck off.”
Sau smiles at them before looking at me. “Stormie is the daughter of an old friend long gone, bless her. She’ll be moving in in a few weeks, perhaps sooner.” She doesn’t say it’s because of the coming war, how alliances must be made quickly, but it’s in her eyes.
Ducking my head, I concentrate on my breakfast, still not yet comfortable being a mother’s focus. A few seconds later, after her attention returns to the twins, I continue down the table. Maddox sits beside her, talking to Rudy in sign language. I follow his hands fora bit, but the only phrase I know is ‘fuck you’ because who hasn’t seen that performance on Youtube? The ‘fuck you’ is signed with wide grins, and I’m slowly getting what it means to have a family that truly cares about each other.
Lots of cursing and laughter.
Making a note to get Khalid to teach me sign language (or maybe even Rudy himself), I skip over the twins and rest on Krypto. He’s sitting in Talon’s chair so it doesn’t sit empty, wolfing down a plate of bacon. His ears are big and pointy, and a smile curls my lips just looking at him. Khalid still hasn’t let me pet him yet, but one of these days I’m going to give him a head pat or ear scratch. He is simply way too cute not to. And those ears!
My smile widens as my gaze is pulled back to them.
He finishes his plate, then hops down to help himself to his bowl of water. While his ‘eyes’ aren’t on me, I look at Leno. He is terrifyingly handsome with a bit of scruff on his face. His strong jaw and nose are split by three pink slashes running from top left to bottom right. Whatever wolf cut him open had been right handed.
I wonder if that wolf was at the office building last night. I didn’t see any in the garage, but when Maddox had run up the stairs, I’d heard commotion on his tail. I wonder where all the bodies went. My eyes flick back to Rudy. He is the cleaner. Maybe he just dropped them into his shadow for all those monsters to eat?
My stomach twists, and I reach for Khalid’s leg as I recall biting his throat. I can’t believe I’d been so naive to think he could heal from that.
Granted, I saw Antonio heal from what seemed like a hundred bullets that night in the woods… Or maybethey had never hit him, his speed so fucking fast.
My pulse spikes at the thought of Khalid fighting him again. Antonio wasn’t even trying in that office, keeping his hands behind his back.
But I have to trust that together these brothers will win. Otherwise…
My throat closes, and my fork clatters on the table. Khalid places his hand on my thigh as the table stops to look at me.
“Thinking of how big my cock is, aren’t cha?” Maddox asks, cutting through my pain and making me blush like mad.
Khalid throws him a look, but I laugh as I shake my head. They’re all crazy. His whole family is fucking crazy.
“I was thinking about what I would do when I couldn’t find it.” The words blurt out of me, and I freeze in utter horror.I did not just say that.
The table erupts into laughter, and Khalid squeezes my thigh. I look at him beneath a curtain of hair, lighting up at the look on his face.
This was what I wanted.
A million mornings like this.
Holding his hand, I gain the courage to sneak a peek at Maddox.
He’s laughing with the rest of them. His eyes on mine, he promises, “I’m going to enjoy making you pay for that.” My cheeks burn madly as he flicks out his tongue.
“Don’t flirt with my girl,” Khalid hisses.
“Oh, so I can put my dick in her, but I can’t –” He yelps as he hugs his side, and I know Khalid has hit him with his magic.
His grin doesn’t fade though. If anything, it grows, and unable to help myself, I giggle.
Khalid turns to me, but before he can say anything, the others at the table start up with their own vulgar offers. My giggle turns into full on laughter even as the heat in my cheeks spreads all the way down my neck.
A snort comes out of me, and I throw a hand over my mouth. Khalid yanks it down; no one else seems to even notice.
My smile spreads as I look at him, my body relaxing.
