He holds my gaze for a long moment, trapping the air in my lungs as I’m terrified he’ll refuse me. I need to do this. He cut off his hand for me. I can’t not do this.Please.

My stomach twists as the seconds drag on.

Then he’s kissing me, his fingers digging into my chest. “I love you,” he murmurs, his tongue sweeping back into my mouth before I can respond. His hand dips down my breast and under my bra. I tense with the awareness of his brothers, then force myself to relax. They’re about to do a lot more than watch…

“So we can do it?” I ask, turning my head, needing to hear his answer as hope waits with bated breath.

He pulls back, trailing his hand down to my thigh. “If Varius lets me borrow his dormant magic, then yes, we can potentially do it without killing you and draining me.” My eyes flick to Varius.

He nods subtly. “Someone will need to be the conduit, but you have my blessing to drain all of it if you so need.”

“Tomorrow then?” I push, not wanting to give him the chance to change his mind or come up with areason to say no.

A smile tugging at his lips, he says, “I would love to be fully bonded to you, kira.”

Dragging him back to me, I kiss him hard.

As soon as we arrive at the house, Sau comes out to greet us using a cane. “I told you to stay in bed,” Varius says as he steps out of the car.

I hurry out so Khalid can go to his mother, not wanting to get into the middle of a family reunion when I’m not really a part of it.

Rolling her eyes, she jabs the cane at him. “And I told you, I’ll be a thousand and still have the power to shove you back up my vagina.”

My eyes widen as the boys groan.

“Now move out of my way so I can see Scarlett.”

Khalid drags me forward, and I shift uncomfortably under her gaze, not knowing how to react to a mother who actually cares. Her eyes flash with sorrow as she takes in my shirtless chest.

“I’m so sorry I didn’t protect you, Scarlett.”

“He didn’t rape me,” I blurt, not wanting her to blame herself and cut off some body part like Khalid did.Relief softens her face as she pulls me into a hug. “You know, when I said being a woman in this family wouldn’t be easy, I didn’t expect you to learn that this quickly.”

“You totally jinxed it, bruh,” Maddox says as he comes up beside her, not at all sensitive to the guilt clear on her shoulders.

Releasing me, she turns to whack him in the side with her cane, tears in her eyes. But there’s a smile on her lips that confuses me. “If you didn’t come out of my own vagina, I’d swear you were adopted. Such a disrespectful little shit.”

Laughing, he envelopes her and lifts her into the air. “Glad to see you’re okay, ma,” he says softly, his voice cracking.

She sags against him as she places her arms around him.

“You too.” She clears her throat. “Now let me go so I can see Khalid.”

When he puts her down, she turns to him, her eyes on his missing hand. Then they lift to his face and she studies him for a long moment. Stepping forward, she cups his cheek. “We will kill him for this,” she whispers.

“Iwill kill him,” he corrects, and I squeeze his hand.

“No...wewill.” Antonio might be a werewolf where I’m just a mere human. He might be faster and stronger than most, but he hurt Khalid, and Iwillfind a way to make him pay for that.

My love looks at me, but he must see the steel in my eyes, or perhaps he can feel my refusal to let this go. Either way, he nods, then pulls me to his side.

“I’m glad he has you, Scarlett,” his mother says with a smile that preludes tears. Grabbing me in anotherhug, she whispers, “Welcome to the family.”
